The twilight of Steven Gerrard

New York Red

Recommended Posts

Stevie has always thrived on gut bursting runs, massive work-rate, and unbelievable enthusiasm on top of his incredible talent and vision.

But players like Stevie take an incredible amount of abuse, and have a lot of miles on them. His current injury, on top of his occasional brittleness in my mind is a sign of things to come. Stevie will be 30 by the end of this season. Reasonably speaking, even if he doesn't have surgery this season, he will have 2-3 more seasons left in him. Given our teams condition, and the disarray with our ownership, I'm fearful that Stevie will retire having never won the title.

That my friends is a true tragedy and it is a realistic one.

Not really.

I couldn't imagine us not winning the league in Stevie's era. I'm fearful of this injury. The last time he had it he was out for ages and missed the World Cup. If he has this again, he'll be 30+ years old with no legitimate plan for us getting a squad to win the league.

hypothetically i cant imagine what he must be thinking of his team-mates after their display on craven turf but most probably he s just as gutted as we are. most probably he thinks that the vog is just a vog, the greek is a greek, de-gen quality

This is a hypothetical thread based on imagaining.

Chances of Stevie playing after 2012? 50%

Chances of Stevie playing after 2013? 20%

Chances of Stevie playing after 2104? 10%

Chances of us getting a new owner by 2010? 20%

Chances of us getting a new owner by 2011? 40%

Chances of us getting a new owner by 2012? 75%

Think about it statisticians. It's a bummer...

You're right NYR. There's a real chance that Stevie might retire without having won the league.

But i thought that it would be a real tragedy if Hyypia retired without the league title to his name and thats whats happened but we've moved on. It would be the same for Carra and Gerrard albeit at a higher level of sentimentality. But what can you do but walk on?

does anyone think he privately regrets not going to Chelsea when he had the chance?

Gerrard is , by his very nature , desperate for success at all levels and that could be his downfall as he plays through injury and pain to ensure he keeps his spot in the England team.

He'll be having another really long season and if he has the surgery during the season, we are well and truly f***ed.

What a depressing thread. Just what we need in this otherwise doom and gloom situation.

it's been a depressing few weeks other than the delight ofl ast week's win against the Mancs.

so many things going wrong for us a tthe same time, we must have walked under every ladder in L:iverpool, smashed a load of mirrors and run over all the black cats on Merseyside.

no money, injured players, sick players, s**** referees, s**** back up players and s**** results.

I think he'll have watched Owen last week and lie awake at night shuddering at what might have been.

Steven Gerrard is our captain, Steven Gerrard is a red.

Well if by some small chance you're right, at least you'll get to pointlessly speculate on his replacement.

gary mac, was playing centre mid for us at 36 years of age.

ryan giggs (player of the century lest we forget) 36, still turning out for the mancs.

i'm sure stevie g, given that he can play just about anywhere, will still be turning out for us for many years to come.

i'd like to speculate aguero or david villa or some other higly expensive person to take stevie g's place while i am living in the realms of fantasy. Its nice and cosy here by the way, there are sofa's a and a lamp and 40inch lcd tv with home cinema surround sound.

The twilight of Steven Gerrard

The Greek

The coming on of Ecclestone

Carra's Red and The Future

For f***'s sake YNWA.tv, have a word with yourself. These thread titles are something out of a bad real life crime/romance novel.

like the chapters from a homo-erotic mills & boon
