You hear all the time that it's "Johnny Foreigner' that dives, cheats and acts disgracefully - but time and again you've seen Scholes, Rooney, Gerrard, Joe Cole, Ashley Cole, Beckham and a memorable cast of others saying "Nah!! We The English don't dive - everyone else cheats.. but not us"

Well, I'm wondering with the latest laughable actions by this horrible football club(?) wether it's time they were hoofed out of the world cup.

How can Terry say "England don't dive" (Again) with a straight face and yet look at Rooneys actions - disgrace to say the least. I'm sick and tired of all the gamesmanship, diving, spoilt crying, whining and general all-round cheating and it's time someone was made an example of - and England would seem to me an excellent example to be made.

A major International side getting catapulted out of the world cup would send shockwaves around the world and similar examples would before long help to get shot of this crap that is going on.

What is the point of football if all you can do is cry, dive, whine and roll around like a baby?

The worst thing about this diving issue, is listening to The Tramp go on about it, now Ronaldo has left, as if he's now on some sort of fvckin moral crusade.

Do players/managers/press in other countries drone on that diving is a 'foreign' thing, or is it just us on this here island who say that kind of thing?

I've said it before...

Get rid of the grey area s*** like tackling from behind. Make it a proper man's game and they'll have more to worry about than diving

Indeed. Amazing how he can spout without even the faintest trace of irony.

Another reason why I believe he has the onset of mental illness - for example the Benitez calling Everton a 'small club' then his 'small club' comments about Citeh. The more he talks, the more you believe his marbles have been won with someone's steelies.

Off the top of my head it's never talked of in such terms by League of Ireland managers, just referred to as something that they don't want to see, etc., etc. Ironically, what diving and playacting there is in Gaelic games has only crept in under the influence of the foreign sport, soccer...

We seem very bothered about it in this country. Where as others they don't seem to care as much

On the other hand defensive cheating like shirt pulling and kicking someone when the ref is not looking doesn't get a mention. Why is one worse?

Kuyt got booked for diving last night.

That was sh*t that. He went down but never appealed for anything. Poor Dirk looked even more gobsmacked than usual.

it seems to be linked to that old favourite 'english fair play'. that innate sense of truth, justice, honour, sportsmanship and fairness that can only come from a country which colonised half the world, enslaved its people and nicked all its natural resources.

In Italy if you successfully con the referee you're admired for being furbo, or cunning.

In Italian there is a verb barare, to cheat, but no noun for those that perform this action. Indeed the dictionary definiton specifically refers to cheating at dice or cards, and then extends this to general dishonesty giving the example of barare in amore.
