What do you make of his 'decision' to not bother with the UEFA cup in a good position - thus crapping all over the poor fans that trekked across Europe to watch their team?

Since that day - he's lost 2 and drawn 1.

I know we play them next weekend - and it's a must win - but it's always been a 'must win' - so no panic there.

But for Villa fans - what DO you make of that?

I actually thought that although they have a crap manager and some duff players - they actually stood a bit of a chance in that cup - and for a team like Villa it could have been an amazing stepping stone for greater things - a European cup back in the cabinet as well would have made the fans quite rightly delighted.

So why did he do it? You could argue that if he'd rested the players as he did - then went to three straight wins, then it would make some kind of sense - but even then - it's a major cup. And it was within their reach.

Just don't understand the man at all - he's supposed to have 'passion' and all that s**** - but look at what he did to Villa fans. Does he even care?

I heard he was supposed to take those that travelled and buy them a dinner for something. Personally if it were me I'd tell them to shove it and ask for my money back that I'd paid to travel to be betrayed by O'Neill.

The big stupid git.

I'm not a fan of him, it must be said.

He's a t***. A club like Villa should take whatever opportunity they get to win a trophy. O'neill treated the tournament with disrespect and doesn't deserve a Uefa competition as punishment.

I can't stand the guy and it now looks like Villa fans are on his case now. He got booed for bringing off Agbonlahor on Saturday when they were 2 goals down.

I was amazed by the side he put out.

Is getting the opportunity to play in a Cl qualifying game more important than actually trying to win a trophy.

It's not like they have a Euro pedigree and would get an easy tie in the qualifiying round of the CL.

If I was a fan, I'd be reet pi$$ed off with O'Neill.

Maybe the players are as well and results have suffered accordingly.

Seems the fans aren't happy with him playing Heskey all the time either :D They want their favourite John Carew to start a few games now and again.

The UEFA Cup is a joke though. There's still about 40 teams in it.

It is a joke, but its also an ideal training ground for his inexperienced squad. We re-learnt how to grind out results in that competition and there is no point getting a Champion's League spot if you're too inexperienced / crap to get through the Qualifiers. Better a long run in the latter stages of the UEFA Cup than an early exit from the qualifiers of the Champion's League. In my opinion.

You won’t get this sentiment out of me very often but:

To be fair to Everton and Moyes, they want to get in the UEFA Cup and when they are there they want to win it. That’s admirable unlike the rest of these clowns.

I think you are asking the wrong forum Andy

But, in my opinion, every manager prioritises competitions. You could argue that we are not really in the position to be playing weakened teams in cups either, but we do. Cos the manager deems other things more important

O'Neill is in a difficult position. He knows he may lose his captain if he doesn't qualify for the champions league, and that he may find it difficult to keep hold of a couple of others as well. Its not really his fault everyone now seems the CL as the be all and end all, or that ridiculous money is now attached to it.

He also may see this season as his best, possibly only, chance of qualifying for it. Maybe he thinks Arsenal points total is lower than normal and that they, along with Liverpool and Chelsea, will only improve. So he doesn't want to think back in a few years and think 'we could have got in that year, and that would have really pushed us forward as a club. Instead all our players got f*cked dicking around in the UEFA cup'.

My point is managers have alot of things to consider and its easy to criticise. Oh and FWIW i reckon he would have out a better team up if they had got a better result in the first leg. Some people just seem to have it in for MON on here for reasons i have never understood to be honest

To be fair, Everton weren't in the UEFA cup long enough to judge that this season.

I'm keeping quiet until after we've played them. But the fact they played in the intertoto is what's damaging their chances now, a few extra wins in the UEFA CUP would just improve confidence. To throw away the intertoto effort is silly, as they'll probably be left with nothing more than what they would have had otherwise - Uefa cup qualification for next year.

I dont know. The Intertoto always seemed pretty similar to pre season games to me. I think its 2 games a week over a period of time that can kill you, rather than starting your season abit earlier

I remember being in Dortmund in 2001 in the run up to the final and absolutely loads of reds were saying they'd rather beat Charlton than win the UEFA cup.

I meant what is the forums take on it from a perceived take on how the Villa fans might feel about it.

That's because the mans a knob - and many dislike him even more when it appeared some idiot might let him get in charge of a proper club like LFC.

Really?

Just shows we have quite a few knobheads that follow us. I was in Dortmund and everyone I met was really up for it and over the moon when we won it.

Yeah, there were a few animated discussions about it.

Ooof. I'm a c***, me.

Still I'd have to go some to out do the grief you gave him one night.

I know. That was Giulio's fault for buying all that red wine.

His only slight against us the other day was that reds do themselves no favours slagging Andy Gray every time he speaks. He finds it a bit para and smalltime.

I do too sometimes, Gray doesn't hate and team/love any team more than any other pundit, he just loves the big players.

His tactical advice for Rafa after United scored was hilarious though, wonder if he changed his mind about Gerrard behind Torres on Sunday evening and 'The Last Word'...

He really hates us. I'd have any other c*nt on tv before him.

But thats ridiculous though! Its not his fault if he gets linked with a job!

Would you start disliking me (even more) if i got linked with a job at your company you felt i didnt deserve? Even if i hadn't applied for it?????
