Benitez Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Just looks so effortless The way he took free kicks, couple of steps, and bang, top corner. The coolest player.
Hassony Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 from the bbc "The game was overshadowed by an incident two minutes before half-time when Jermaine Johnson seemed to shove linesman Darren Cann after squaring up to Nigeria's Taye Taiwo. The two were sent off. "As Arsene Wenger says, I didn't see it," said Jamaica coach John Barnes. "
owenthomas Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 reminds me of Ryan Babel. after the last few games i'm beginning to think Babel will come good.. honest!!
Toni Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 John Barnes - my favourite player of all time. Babel if he can be half as good as barnes was, we d have a hell of a player. He has his pace and strength, sadly babel doesnt possess that sweet left foot and has to mature more as a player but one can always hope... does anyone have any barnes videos when he was 21?
yellow jumper Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 was at the game against portsmouth at the end there, main stand at highbury. bloke sitting behind me did a front roll down the stairwell when the goal went in. think whelan was given the goal ultimately, although we all believed barnes had scored. was quite young at the time so might just have been a figment of my imagination, but also have a vague memory of him going close with a powerful diving header during that game, and the ball appearing to puncture on something behind the goal. it had to be replaced anyway.
Bogman Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Those were the days. Just done an identical thread on RAWK, was looking at a clip of Reina, searched LFC and came up with that exact same clip.Bloke was fooking awesome, just forget how good he was.I never saw Kenny play, but was lucky to be around when Digger was at his pomp. One of the best players we ever had.Would like to have him around now, he'd show that slimey t*** in manc land how it's done, but with grace and dignity. Top post.
Big E Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Better than Ronaldo. One player like him and we'd storm the league.
alias75 Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Been watching the Big Match revisited on ITV2 which shows football from the early 1980s and it looks so dated when you compare it to football today. But you watch those clips of Barnes and it really is like watching a player in the modern game, he really was a player ahead of his time in a lot of ways.
stressederic Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Still my favourite player. He could destroy teams by himself. Probably the closest this country has ever come to producing someone like Ronaldinho or Messi.
Stevie H Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 totally ahead of his time. such balance at pace, used to love watching him.
_00_deathscar Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Better than Ronaldo. One player like him and we'd storm the league. We'd win it with someone half as good.
Snoeker Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 The quality on his crosses is amazing - fast, looping, little dinks to the near post *swoon* And Beardsley... if he was around to play behind Torres...I'm off for a lie down.
Billy Dane Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 It's all very well scoring goals with his head, left foot and right foot, putting in crosses, taking a decent free kick, ghosting past players and so on but there's not one clip of him tracking back, the lazy fecker.
