So I've been following this team with more and more interest since 1994, until the point where I now live and breathe Liverpool FC. But I've never been to Anfield.

My New Years Resolution, is to visit Anfield before the end of 2009, but since I've never been there, I have no idea how to construct my travel-package. So far I've asked around and it seems that the best way is to buy them off touts. But what is up with the prices, is it true that I'll have to fork out around 200 quid for the cheapest tickets, (Sunderland Home) up to 500 quid for the most expensive one? (Arsenal Home)

Surely this can't be right. I don't expect you guys to all have season-tix, and those who don't have ST, surely aren't pay 500 quid for a home game?

Hopefully someone can shed some light on how this can be done easier, and maybe a bit less expensive?

EDIT: Mods, hope this topic is okay...

Don't be suckered into believing the hype surrounding the scarcity of tickets and make it a rule to NEVER pay over the odds. As a true Liverpool fan, you should have that engraved on your heart. NEVER pay more than is printed on the ticket regardless of what the rest of your trip has cost you. In my experience, there are often tickets available for the "standard" games and it is one of these you should aim to go to. Don't be thinking you can go to the derby or Man Utd for your first game. You'll need to work your way up to that like the rest of us had to.

But if you want to come over for a game, just do it. There's often tickets knocking around. I have two season tickets and all the lads we go to the game with are also season ticket holders of long standing but occasionally someone will want to bring a brother, cousin, relative etc and we almost always find a spare ticket from somewhere. Equally, someone might not turn up and his mate will be holding a spare. I almost missed the Preston game on Sunday as I was full of a cold and felt like crap so that would have come up late as quite a few do.

Just ask around on here, you're reasonably well known and someone will recognise a deserving case.

Lastly, about three years ago, a big group of lads used to meet up with us in our local and they'd come to our Man Utd home game with two spare tickets! They were from a supporter's club in Nottingham and two lads had not turned up for the bus. They couldn't find anyone to have them and asked us if we knew any lads without so believe me, there are often spares knocking around and sometimes this applies even for the biggetst games.

That's just blatently a lie, there's no need to pay anything above face value.

As Jacks says, tickets aren't nearly as scarce as you might think

You can ring the official ticket office number from anywhere in the world when they go on general sale or apply by post

or even get a spare off people on here or rawk

pick a game that's not going to be massively in demand and you should have no problem (might be a problem this season if we carry on challenging, but start of next season there should be quite a few less in demand games, e.g. Blackburns, West Hams)

don't expect a decent atmopshere though

First off thanks for the answers...

I know that I can't go to the big games on my first go, that's a given. And really not important, I just want to get a chance to sing-a-long, and bounce when Torres scores. It's just too big of a risk to travel from where I am, without the safety of a ticket. Money is not a problem per say, I could gather what ever is needed. I just don't condole paying extra, just because I'm not from the city. I haven't had a sick day in two years, so I could move in a matter of minutes, call in sick, stay in Liverpool for the weekend. Just as long as that ticket is there... But I should start entering the E-season ballots I guess...

Since you're from Denmark (not that I'm proud of calling Brøndby a part of my home country!!!) who don't you just travel with Tipsbladet? They arrange a couple of trips each year, as far as I know.

I found this website recently: http://fodboldrejser.dk/premier-league-eng...2/liverpool-14/

Just avoid the Real game, as it's 45.000,00 Danish kroner (£36K) - excluding flight ticket! I seriously hope it's a mistake :)

Just like you, I haven't been to a home game either. I made an agreement in 2003 with two friends from commercial school that we would go to Anfield before moving to New Anfield. We'll probably have the next ten years to do so :(

If you find a reasonable solution, please let me know, as I too would like to go to a home game this year. I don't care about the money either (won't pay over the odds for a ticket though); the experience itself is probably worth far more :)

I regularly go to the ground and buy off touts been to 3 or four this season against mid table teams average price ive paid is 45-50 quid. My advice is wait just untill kick of as the touts wil be asking 70-80 well before kick off as kick off approaches they have to get rid and the prices wil come down. I typically pay 45 quid for a 47 pound kop ticket, dont pay any more unless it's a big game when the demand will be that much higher.

If you can plan in advance (1month) just phone the ticket office usually tickets available first come first served.

Have you actually tried asking for a ticket for a specific game in the Tickets forum?

you'd want to be a right cheeky get to do that ;)

Seriously though, its the the thing to do.

(oh yeah, I heard about the 2 ft thick cushion you're bringing along for me too  )

To answer Aggermania's basic question - the standard prices for tickets vary depending on what part of the ground you are in, whether it is Premier league (and then which team we are playing), Champions League etc. - for early round cup games you can probably get a standard ticket for £25, for premier league it's between £35-£45 on average, CL games maybe a little more, especiually in eth knock-out stages. Anything that is suggesting you need to pay more then £50 is ripping you off. £500 is just taking the piss.

Best thing to do initially is to get in contact with the club and tell them yo uwant to travel from Demnark but don't want to do it without the guarantee of a ticket, can you book one in advance etc.. I know Patsy uses this strategy sometimes and it has worked for her in the past.

If you then get no joy from the ticket office, just ask around on here, especially in the ticket forum, there are plenty of people who can get spares and with enough notice will reserve one for you so you can arrange your travel.

And you were being generous with the 2ft. He'd have to stand on that to be able to see.

cobblers

if you want to see your team that's badly it's up to you what you pay

as distinct from selling tickets for a profit which I'm not happy with at all

xref the Thomas Cook tout tickets packages - totally legit and above board..are you happy with them just 'cos the man says it's okay?

If you go on RAWK's ticket forum you should get spare tickets farely handily, people are always offering spares on there for face value or thereabouts, it's a busier than the one on here. Don't even think about buying one of those ridiculously priced tickets off the net.

I now live and breathe Liverpool FC. But I've never been to Anfield.

You don't "live and breathe" Liverpool FC then.

it's not like it's buying tickets from touts for a CL semi, that i can see the point of, but buying them for PL games where it's easy enough to get them on general sale out of nothing short of laziness, is stupid.

I've been to see the Reds 6 times, two of those at Anfield and only once have had to resort to using touts for the tickets (0-0 Barca away in the CL). If you want the tickets badly enough, you'll find a way. Although, it's obviously a bit different when you talk about the really big games.
