Cech has surgery after accident

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has undergone surgery following a training ground accident that left him with cuts to his lip and chin.

The club say the 25-year old Czech Republic international keeper had the operation on Sunday.

Cech has missed the last nine games with an ankle injury but had been on the verge of a comeback.

He will now miss Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Turkish side Fenerbahce.

Chelsea told BBC Sport they would be making no further comment on the accident.

Cech has worn protective headgear during training and in matches since suffering an horrific depressed skull fracture in a challenge with Reading midfielder Stephen Hunt in October 2006.

He last featured for Chelsea this season in their 4-0 win over West Ham on 1 March.

"Training ground accident" that left cuts to his lips and chin, and required surgery?!

Unlucky? I agree. In this case he was unlucky to get his head kicked in by a team-mate have such an unfortunate accident.

He's still a Chelsea player.

Everyone's got their cross to bear.

Although Pepe probably leaves his for the defenders to bear if the weekend is anything to go by. :hooked:
