Re: Liverpool offer 4 year contract to 15 old Finn

Remember the topic about Lauri Dalla Valle, the (now) 16-year old Finn we approached with an offer a few months ago? Well I couldn't unearth it from the archives, but some new developments have taken place. According to Now Chelsea have apparently stepped in with a offer of £1m and promising to double the wages offered by any other club. Malcolm Elias, however, remains confident that Dalla Valle will sign for us. The article implies that wherever he goes, he will move in January at the latest.

Quotes from Elias

- I saw Lauri in Euro qualifiers in Sarajevo and I repeat, Lauri is an incredible talent. I'm eagerly waiting him to join Liverpool and I'm confident that he is willing to join us.

- The idea is to have the whole Dalla Valle family come and visit Liverpool in November. The club is very committed to develop Lauri into a top player and to follow the footsteps of Sami Hyypiä at Anfield

FWIW, the link...

Let's see what happens...

It'll be good for a Finnish player to develop his game in England while still young. From what I can gather from Finnish posters over the years, they play the 'not-over-head-height-rule' in 11-a-side football as well as 5-a-side in Finland.

AFAIK he's an attacking midfielder.

He's made 5 appearances for his team in the second highest level in Finland this season. I wouldn't exactly expect him to make a first team appearance in the next 3-4 years even if he signed.

??

It is Finland we are talking about here, isn't it

Steve Cotterill is warning us off making a £250,000 bid for John Cofie. Sounds like he'll let him go for a bigger fee and contact has already been made.

Here.

News is :-

John Cofie has turned down the chance of going to play for Manchester United & Chelsea.

I understand a deal has been struck up by Rick Parry & Cofie's agent/father for a January transfer.

Manchester United thought Cofie would arrive at Old Trafford in January, for the ₤1 million Burnley were asking for.

They thought they had been successful, because they were not going to do a Liverpool' and quibble over the amount they could theoretically get Cofie for.

(I believe the compensation could be as low as ₤250,000)

Chelsea have been watching Cofie for sometime now, I was told Chelsea had scouts watching him when he had turned just 14.

I understand that Chelsea made 2 offers for Cofie - one of which even gazumped Manchester United's.

But Liverpool seem to have got there man, they have been strenuous in there persuit of Cofie for months.

My friend tells me, he & his family have been 'invited' guests to Anfield on numerous occassions. The most recent being last Wednesday on the night Liverpool played Cardiff.

Cofie is a mad Liverpool supporter, as are his family & they met with Rick Parry on Wednesday night - where Liverpool got the answer they had been looking for.

He is understood to have met Rafa, Stevey G & the rest of the team on that night too.

Rafa introduced him to the first team & told them he would be 'joining us soon'.

Its hard to believe this boy is still only 15 years old & the clamber for his signature has been so fierce - but this will be yet another starlet recruited to Anfield -

Rafa has his scouts planted all over the globe & together, they have brought in over 20 youngsters to the LFC academy over the last few years.

Not many of them are home grown & the cost varies from player to player, but Benitez thinks that this has to be the future.

Tom Hicks is a firm fan of the way Benitez is doing this & has told him any youngster he wants - they will try & get.

Normally a youngster will come in for less than a million pounds & the Americans see that as a win win situation.

January could see upto 5 new additions to Liverpools youth system - Cofie being one of them.

I really like our current youth policy. Even if 25% of the promising talent makes it through to the first team then it is a major success. I appreciate that at the moment the rate is even lower than that, but if we are buying in youngsters who we believe have real talent then I would imagine that we should see the progression to the first team increase.
