Leo No.8 Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 I like the players he's bringing in. For all his failings as England manager, he knows his stuff at club level and given money to spend as he has been, I think he'll get City into a UEFA Cup spot this season. Bojinov could be fantastic here, he's a very talented forward whose direct style could be well suited to English football. I like Petrov as well, he's really quick which should stand him in good stead in England, and Elano will add real creativity and ball retention from the centre. With a few talented youngsters including Richards I think they'll do well; he's bought shrewdly from the foreign market wheras the other bigger spenders who finished bottom half last season like West Ham and Fulham are over-paying for English based players. He may have almost become a comedy figure in England, but although he'll line up 4-4-2 and not do anything exciting, he's brought in good players and will organise them well. He's a good club manager and I think he'll prove that this year.
Kahnee Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 I beg to differ. I think its going to take a while to integrate the number of players he's brought in and is going to struggle initially before finishing up mid-table. Fortunately for him, there are enough other clubs about to stave off any risk of struggling for survival

Fortunately for him, there are enough other clubs about to stave off any risk of struggling for survival I agree. I think they'll be in the bottom half. Sven has managed to buy these players because of his contacts yet tactically i think he's poor. Was a decent coach 20 years ago but how many have stayed good for that length of time ? Very few. Would people think the same if Man City had brought back George Graham ? Put him in charge of England and they'd have done a similar job. Talent alone gets them through the qualifiers. Unless he brings in top class coaching staff and plays a directors role, i think they'll be just another team in the league.

If you really fancy them they are 8/11 to finish the season above Bolton with Hills
Herbie von Smalls Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 i reckon sven as a club manager without the level of scrutiny reserved for national team managers, with a bunch of players he has handpicked to strengthen the squad, is a very different prospect to his time in charge of england. he'll improve citeh. not sure about getting them as far as europe this season mind.
Rimbeux Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Would be an interesting bet between him and Allardyce for highest league position. The way he dealt with the baggage of England is not to his credit, but this is different, he chooses the players he wants in his squad and his team without trying to appeal to some kind of national consensus.
surf Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 I reckon they'll do feck all this season and Newcastle will finish above them.
Kahnee Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 I reckon they'll do feck all this season and Newcastle will finish above them. Tractor boy speaks sense
Gray - YPC Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 I think Elano is a very good signing, as I've been very impressed every time I've seen him (which is only about 5 games mind, but still)
Guest Portly Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 I think Leo's right. He usually is. I have taken William Hill's 11-8!
John am Rhein Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 I reckon Eriksson would improve them quite significantly even with the same players as last year. Add a few decent signings and they'll be better still - even if most of them take time to settle in. I reckon they'll finish something like 8th-10th.
Hassony Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Chicks dig evil dictators.sven better not mess around with the chairman missus
Smith Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 sven better not mess around with the chairman missus That's Sven's signing on bonus.
Frosty Jack Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 It's at the very least going to be interesting. This season in general, Svens project at City, Keane at Sunderland, at least there's going to be some sub-plots going on.I'm genuinely interested as to what Eriksson can do. He has made some good signings. Elano in particular, very underrated, they'll likely end up mid-table but i'll be interested in how he get's them playing, he has a lot to prove.

Yeah, they're a lot better than they were last year, they might struggle initiallly if the players take a while to bed in. They'll do alright though, I can see them being a force in two or three years time, same goes for Villa, Lerner will probably spend a bit of money in the medium term.
DazzlaJ Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 Onoucha (sp) looks class Aye but he sounds like vd
Bootle Buck Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 Still think we should have gone for Richards this summer. The lad will be a Great player.
Dmitch Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 i think there a team to watch over the next 2-4 years. Think they have a very good chance of finishing top 6. If there players develop and with Sven (Very good manager) *Prepares for a ribbing* they could break into the top 4. This isnt just based on Saturdays game.
Ste M Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 I've been ranting and raving on another forum about Ciy's signings, especially Elano and Petrov, and the only surprise to me is that they got things to gether so quickly into their careers over here. Both will be sensational.
realtarragona Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 Still think we should have gone for Richards this summer. The lad will be a Great player. At centre back... Can't really justify spending the huge amount he'd cost when Agger and Carragher will be around for some time yet.
