Who would we choose?

After that dross in the cupfinal Saturday, my thoughts turned to what players on the field would we have in the Liverpool team? Leaving aside Terry, Drogba and Ronaldo, who would you want at LFC? I'll start by saying Essien and Joe Cole.

Essien - but midfield is not one area we need now.

I am having second thoughts about Robben over Cole because hes utterly pathetic at riding through challenges. Garcia, who is smaller in size has probably more mettle than him

Definitely Robben. He's they type of player we've lacked this year. Runs at defenders and scores quite a few goals.

He'd need to man up x50 though.

shouldn't that be third?

My combined team from LFC, CFC, MUFC (I don't have anything better to do): Cech, Finnan, Carragher, Carvalho, Cole, Robben, Gerrard, Essien, Ronaldo, Rooney, Drogba. Subs: Reina, Ferdinand, Macherano, Scholes, Schevchenko (!).

Er, Ferdinand over Agger? Scholes over Alonso? Schevchenko over any of the other options?

OK...

is right. any liverpool fan who doesn't rate scholes as a footballer is talking out of their hole.

He's the man for the big occasion

Reina's better than Cech.

Yes, ok. I choose what I think is the best team. Ferdinand has more games in hinm then Agger and Scholes has done more in his career and has had a better season then Alonso, no doubt. Schevchenko, that is just based on what I know he is capable off. I don't like any of them but I'm not that LFC-blind that I can't accept that there is other good players.

Essien - a great midfielder who has also managed to turn right back into a completely new position.

Drogba - The best striker in the premiership by a mile (this year). He has heart , pace and passion. And for some reason his 'cheating' doesn't annoy me as much.

Scholes - He's a throwback to another footballing age. He plays the game like any kid does. He also seems to have escaped all the trappings of contemporary stardom. I'd have him in a heartbeat.

Heinze - He's just far better than any left-back option we have

Lampard - The first team squad could use him as target practice at the end of training sessions. All but Alonso would be given grenades, Xabi would have a rocket launcher.

Riise is better

Sorry, don't agree. Riise has little or no positional sense and leaves gaps that other teams can exploit. I dont know the exact figures but I would make a guess that the number of goals coming from the left side of the pitch far exceeds those from the right. I like him. He's whole hearted and doesn't try and hide but there is something of the ginger Roberto Carlos about him. He scores spectacular goals but doesn't deliver on what he is there for; to defend.

Heinze, has been poor this season - so has Riise- but overall I think he is a far better defender. He has pace, positional sense and all the snideness you would expect from an Argentinian defender. He would add something significant to the Liverpool team. I'd still keep Riise because he is so big-hearted and can play in two positions. He gives the team shape when he plays on the left side of midfield. But I'm not certain he has the skill to deliver there in the way you would expect from a top player.

yet we still have a great record defensively when he is in the team

:lol::rolleyes:

cause youve great options to cover his mistakes...no wonder carragher has to work so hard and make cracking last ditch tackles....and agger... having a good keeper helps too..
