Will we have a big turnover in these areas this summer?

Zenden -- Good lately, but generally unreliable and injured a lot

Kewell -- Injured a lot and generally disappointing for us

Gonzalez -- Some say he just won't cut it. I'm not sure.

Garcia -- Bad injury. Has been a saviour for us but has had his issues.

Pennant -- Coming long well but is he really the calibre that we need?

I really have question marks about all of them. We've managed well this year but to win the Prem we have to do better.

Will we sign Alves? Ribery? Schweinsteiger? What would end up being the right four players to cover both sides?

I remember something Rafa said at the start of the seaon when we were a little suspect defensively. He said that as we had more width we had lost the stability through the centre, so I wonder if he will go for right and left sided players who can tuck in and condense the play when we don't have the ball. If so it would require a particular style of winger, not one who hugs the touchline, but maybe one who is more a left or right sided midfielder with the ability to track back and defend.

Think Pennant has done enough that he can be considered back up for the right wing and you'd be fairly confident with him starting some games. That means if we sign another right sided player we can use Stevie mainly as a central midfielder or just off the striker, maybe that means one of Alonso or Sissoko can be sold?

Then theres also the option of signing someone like Simoa who can play right and left, and hopefully one of Gonzalez, Kewell, Leto steps up.

you can add Simao and Queresma to that list

the problem is its hard to find anyone on that list thats guaranteed to be better than Pennant ( waits for the laughs )

but its true, much as I dont like him the best bet on that list ( based on record ) would be Simao as a LW but even Ribery has a touch of he Lennons about him

and dont forget it is the French league he's doing ok in

all in all the best wingers from the names mentioned would be Kewell, Simao, Pennant - these three have an end product

Queresma looks like he's coming good and I often suggest him for RW ( I know he often plays LW ) - but in terms of guaranteed end product

he's still a little suspect as is Alves IMHO

or maybe play with one winger and one player to tuck in. i reckon we should sign ray houghton and john barnes.

I think we'll have gerrard and Kewell mainly for the wings next season although we should bring in a high quality attacking midfielder who can play wide because those two and garcia are the only ones who can. The strike force needs major visiting though

Has it been a week already?

Ah, leave him be! I love transfer speculation, so I'm always happy to see a new NYR thread - :D

I agree but I don't think Rafa does.

No, neither do I.

Don't think it's quite as much of a disaster as signing too many for the spine, just one up front is much more important. Two outwide - on top of Leto - is just about bearable. More than that, upfront or outwide, and we're asking for trouble.

Leto and voronin are squad player, we need one top class striker (maybe to replace bellamy) and one wide man ( although if we get a full season out of kewell and Pennat continues to improve than it won't be as vital)

If we sign two wide players we have Pennant, Garcia, Gerrard, Voronin, Kewell, Leto, Aurelio, Riise magicalwideplayerone and magicalwideplayertwo. We have to shift a couple of those on. Obviously you can't Voronin and Leto, personally I like Kewell a lot, Garcia has shown himself useful... I can't be arsed finishing typing this but suffice to say I don't think we need two wide players. Outstanding wide player and outstanding striker for me.

voronin is more of a striker than a wide play isn't he?

Never seen Voronin play, Sammya ?

I know he's not a winger but I'm also looking at it from the perspective that maybe you could shift garcia and leto to a behind the striker role if the midfield is packed out but then that is where Beni says Voronin plays
