..to make my mind up that he's going to be a first class centre-half in a few years and will more than likely by Carra's perfect replacement when he decides to hang up his boots.

It's still to early to decide either way IMO. Young defenders nearly always look a bit awkward initially, it must be compounded when you're moving to a different culture with a different culture.

I suppose it just emphasises the impact Agger has made.

Thought this was gonna end .....to know he's gonna be s***.

I don't think he'll end up s****, but then again don't think he'll develop into a player capable of playing for the league champions week-in-week-out, which is what we need.

Let's not get to anxious in predicting a glorious future for him. It wasn't that long ago that people wanted to crucify the lad after the Carling Cup game against Arsenal. It's to early for the weight of expectation to be placed upon him.

He looked awkward against Portsmouth, but he played well today. In his previous games I've seen enough of him, sure he made the odd rickett. Give him a season long loan somewhere this year so he plays regular and we'll see his true self when he returns.

sorry but that is a very bold statement for a youngster who, has looked way out of his depth in every game ive seen him play...

did ok today, but c`mon wasnt exactly up against much...

I fully expected to open this thread and it would say 'Paletta, I've seen enough of him.......and believe hes not going to be good enough for us"

so imagine my suprise when i read that hes being compared to a carra of the future....

To be honest at the mo, i dread seeing his name on the teamsheet in a "kvarme like way"............Paletta is young, so definetly one for the future, but if i were Rafa id seriously think about bringing in proper back up for Carra in the summer.

Carra's got a good few seasons left in him, plenty of time to groom Paletta :o

You must be really proud if you've had your eye on him since he was born. Must be the first newborn to kick a football regularly

should have replaced above with over.

I thought he looked shakey in defence but his composure on the ball was excellent. Maybe he could be one to switch to defensive midfield? Just a thought.

I certainly don't think he is as awful as is made out at times. I've seen some pretty poor defending from seasoned premiership defenders in the past and this guy is only new to the League. It's way too early to write him off.

Agree Kev - if Paletta continues to adapt and improve, he'll be major for us. Insua is already showing he's a crafty bit of business.

Looks quite though (well, he's an Argie defender, they know a trick or two), good with the head but still looks akward and slow and uses too much time on the ball. Guess he needs games so he can adapt. Loan him out to a championship side and he will come back a really good player.
