It is disconcerting for Liverpool Football Club to be aware of an increase in the number of incidents and complaints received involving racial abuse by supporters purporting to follow this great club.

Whilst the current volume of racial incidents is thankfully nothing like the levels witnessed in the bad old days of the late 70s through to the early 90s, the directors and senior management of Liverpool Football Club wish to see a swift and abrupt end brought to this moronic behaviour which will not be tolerated at Anfield.

We firmly believe that the vast majority of this famous club's worldwide supporter base will share the same view that Liverpool Football Club is A CLUB FOR ALL, whereby everyone is welcome to play for, support or work for the club regardless of the colour of their skin, ethnicity and/or religious beliefs.

Strong and decisive action will be taken by the club/courts against any supporter involved in racial abuse/behaviour likely to cause offence whilst following the Reds.

Earlier this season, a Liverpool supporter appeared in court and was found guilty of racially abusing a visiting player. In addition to being fined, the individual concerned received a three-year banning order preventing them from attending any football matches played at a licensed stadium.

Prior to this, a Liverpool season ticket holder was found guilty in court of using racial language whilst watching another game at Anfield during the 2005/6 season, resulting in the individual also receiving a three-year banning order and having his season ticket withdrawn.

We do not want the good name of Liverpool Football Club besmirching anymore and ask that should any supporter witness behaviour, not just racial but anything that causes offence, they report such either to the nearest steward or in writing to the club. As much information regarding the incident should be given as possible, including the block, row and seat number, if applicable, of the person/s involved.

Witnesses will also be requested to provide written statements to assist the club in successfully prosecuting individuals through the courts.

By stamping down firmly now, everyone can help prevent the abhorrence of racism from spreading its evil practices any further around this world-renowned football club, and we hope that all decent-minded supporters will firmly support both Liverpool Football Club and Merseyside Police, who are working together to help drive this vindictive behaviour out of Anfield.

Supporters can confidentially report any incidents of racial abuse/behaviour by telephoning the club's dedicated Anti-Racism Incident Reporting Line on 0800 298 4999. Supporters can be assured that the club and the police are committed to fully investigating any complaint made in respect of racial abuse/behaviour.

we have a growing number of people, mainly in their late teens early 20's who are casuing the vast majority of the aggro. at away games its particularly bad. i saw a group of them ripping into two black lads selling Burgers at Blackburn away last year, demanding to see their work permits, calling them N*****s etc., before spitting on them and spraying them with their sauce bottles. if the club are really serious about this, they should stick a few representatives on the Barnes and Happy Als coaches, as well as a few undercover stewards in with the crowd to weed this feckers out and stop them getting tickets for future games

pretty much the same thing happened at Brum last year, without the spitting and sauce spraying, but with a group of about 15 -20.

Are football fans backsliding into the bad old days or is it just that incidents are being reported more widely than they were and things are better than ever before?

the same one with the italian bizzies are scousers banner?

He's a horrible schitbag him, and no mistake. I have a total aversion to snitching in any form but I cannot see any other way to rid the club of this odious dirtbag. He genuinely thinks those around him think the same way as he comes out with sickening stuff like it was the most natural thing in the world. He's going to bring something bad down on the rest of us one day and I can guarantee he'll be in hiding or running the other way.

will never forget the prick in istanbul i had to endure for 45 minutes with his constant racism of traore. thankfully i moved seats for the 2nd half and things got better (in every way!)

i hope that racist t*** is locked up somewhere..... and he was no teenager as he had his two young sons with him, he was a disgrace!

I think things are generally much better than before - more incidents are being reported as more fans find them genuinely offensive and not are not simply paying lip-service to PC perceptions - all to the good. As Wayne says and I've seen it too at away games (particulalrly Birmingham last year) it's a certain young clique of nobheads that seem to be causing most ofn the problem - a few others have reported individual incidemnts on here and on occassion have confronted the idiot(s) in question.

Last night a guy in his 40's made a racist comment when Drogba and Mikel were down in the box and got decked by a bloke sitting in front of him. Pretty bad cut he got aswell.
