Is about to become the best player in the world... and perversly, it will as a result of playing for england, that he takes that final step

Saw him for the first time in an england shirt boss the game, drag england through a game and play like he does for us.

I think, starting with us winning number 6 in Athens, moving forward in a Liverpool team that has had major investment in the summer and ending with him being the main man for england in next summers Euro championships steven will become the worlds best all round footballer over the next 18 months

Always said he is the most complete footballer in the world, no one else can even come close to being as good at everything as he is. I think he is now going to prove it.

It was Andorra, and England are far from qualified for 2008.

I agree that he could become the best player in the world, but the media have decided that Ronaldo is next in line for that mantle despite what anyone else does in the meantime.

You're right. Nothing the boy's done in his career so far can match up to the achievement being the best player on the park against Andorra. Only now he has he shown he true class.

Its not about the opposition

You miss the point

Its about his team mates, they all stood back as gerrard boss the game, like he does at times for Liverpool. He was head and shoulders above all his team mates, for the first time in an England shirt

He was englands best player and talisman last night for the first time, he did for England what he can do for Liverpool and I thin this is what will propel onto that final level in terms of stature etc in the game

'I remember Andorra' is what people will say in years gone by.

HS was perhaps unfortunate to use a game against andorra as an example, but I know what he's saying.

It's not about the football, but the fact that he was the one who "rolled his sleeves up" and dragged england to the victory. He wasn't afraid to risk failure by being the foacl point of the team. Most of the rest of 'em looked shell shocked half the game.

I must be the only one who thought he had an aveage game , 2 moments of good football yes especially the second goal . but he gave the ball away a lot with his long range passing and was annon in the first half. Not trying to put a downer on his 2 goals but ffs it was only andorra.

think you're missing the point there. not saying he played the best game of his life, or that the opposition were anything other than below ordinary.

The point is, whilst others hid, desperate not to get blamed for f*****g up (by the fans and the press), SG got stuck in and led by example. The net result of his endeavours was the 2 goals he scored, and 1 he set up. If he'd hid like some of the others did, (or frank likely would), then we may well be talking about another 0-0.
