Can't seem to find a thread on his perfomance last night which surprises me.

Thought he was excellent considering his fitness. Not very quick at the moment and gets tired quite quickly, but never stopped running and capped it off with a well taken goal. Made up for him.

He's also dedicated the goal to Cisse which is a nice touch.

Seemed to end up in a completely free role as the Aussies chased the game, a position he's not going to get at LFC, but the lad proved he's still got it up top, even if his body is falling apart.

Made a funny comment about scoring with his right too. Something along the lines of 'i've had a enough practice with it lately, as the left one has not been working (injuries)'.

Well played fella.

that'll be cos its in the World Cup forum, plenty mentions of Harry in the game thread there

Made up for him. Australia played brilliantly. If they had Schwarzer in goal and Poll wasn't such a clown they'd have beaten Croatia by 4 or 5

Whats surprised me about Australia is that they aren't just relying on keeping it tight and hoping for Kewell and Viduka to pull them through. They have skill right through the midfield and the way Hiddink has them playing is very fluid.

I thought they were unfairly criticised by some on the forum after their game against Brazil. a bit of luck and they could have got something from that game.

They can beat Italy but you never write off the Italians do you.

yeah he was quality last night. i predict next season being a good one for him.

he never looks that happy when scores for us.

That goal for him was massive for Australia, that is why he looked so happy. The Australian PM has said he his now King Harry!

I am sure Harry would be overjoyed if he scored in an important match for us.

The thing about Harry is that he gets too much stick from the Liverpool fans, can't you even be happy for him? He showed mental strength when he came back in December and transformed himself from a Kop-flop to a Kop-hero, but that's all gone in the memories now, because it's two months since he played for us.

I'm really happy for Harry, don't think Rafa will sell him in the summer, and why should he? He's been one of our best players since his comeback, and who cares if he had more pace when he was playin for Leeds? I'm not sure he was a better player then. We all remember his good clips from Leeds (the goal against Arsenal etc), but some people only seem to remember his injuries with us and ignoring his good performances. I really, really give a f*** about his performances in Leeds as long he's one of our most important players.

And Mark Gonzales. Don't get me wrong, I'm really looking forward to him, but it's Speedy who's got to fight to take Harrys place, not vice versa..

he just needs to find a way to stay on the pitch long enough.

:bleh::bleh:

he had a good game yesterday, in spite of having to play alongside Viduka who was slow to say the least.

Well said. Plenty of people prepared to trust Rafa in everything he does, except accepting that a fit harry Kewell has always been one of the first names on his team sheets.

Hear hear - I said last summer I had a feeling Kewell would finally find his form in 05/06 and he really did.

His improved form and fitness was a big factor in our vast improvement.

Can't seem to find a thread on his perfomance last night which surprises me.

Was on here before and saw no thread, then read below and and thought, stuff it, he deserves it.

"Before the game I was thinking how to use Harry because he's not in his top game shape and I was thinking of bringing him on later," Hiddink said on Friday.

"But these games are special and these games need special players because they can make the difference."

Assistant coach Graham Arnold praised Kewell's work ethic to get himself fit enough to play a significant 90-minute role in Australia's surprise qualification into the last 16 of the tournament.

"Harry has struggled in the last few weeks with fitness but it's a testament to the guy," he said. "He wakes up at seven in the morning, he goes to the gym, he works hard, he trains hard, he eats well, he does everything to be fit.

"If you talk to him he'll probably say he shouldn't be here with the injury he's had and it's testment to the guy he's given everything he can give physically to get here."

Captain Mark Viduka rates Kewell as one of the greatest players he has ever played with.

"I was so happy for him to score. For me Harry is definitely one of the best players I've played with," said Viduka, who plays as a lone striker for his country.

"I'm happy he's with us and I was so happy for him when the ball came in, it was like I scored. We were so relieved to get that goal and he was definitely man-of-the-match for me.

"He did such a good job and he makes it easier for me when I've got him around me because every time he gets it he looks for me and we look for each other."

Kewell described his history-making goal against Croatia as his greatest ever.

"That's the most important goal so far in my career. If it wasn't going to be me, I'm sure it was going to be someone else," he said.

Kewell, who was named FIFA's official man of the match, said he was relishing the task of facing Italy for a last eight spot.

"It's perfect for us," he said. "A lot of people didn't think we were going to get through the group stage, we were very confident about qualifying from this group, obviously we left it a little bit late.

"But we got there and now we have to concentrate on Italy, it's going to be a great game."

10 years ago i hated "Soccer". I am 36 and as a 6yo i supported Liverpool like everyone else (1976) but soon played and followed AFL and cricket. Never thought about "Soccer" till 1996 when i moved from Adelaide back to my home town. Friend was a Football fan and introdced me again and although it took a year or two I found myself being swayed. Why? Harry Kewell. I am a huge sports fan and he inspired me. Who was this kid?

Anyway he took me back to liverpool (home) and i have to say "its been emotional". If Harry gets sold this year (bloody hope not!) I will say "good luck" but I am Red forever, end of.

Having said that i am so happy for him, what a rollercoaster he has ridden these past 3 years. I thought his Misses was the soapie actor! His story could be a best seller, especially if he helps win both 19 & 20 :drink:

f*** it, a hatrick in the CL final for number 6

So now from the news item on the front page.

Liverpool players that have scored in the WC are now:

Hunt

Owen

Heskey

Crouch

Gerrard

Kenny

Xabi

Souness

Kewell.

What about Diao. We definitely signed him before the 2002 WC.

Hoping for a Garcia one tonight.

Yes you did, Leo. I remember, not too many of us at times did and to be honest, understanderbly. I dont think even LFC knew the extent of his injuries until they operated on his snapped tendon and found the hernia.

His improved form and fitness was a big factor in our vast improvement.

With Speedy arriving i expect he will be even better, simply because playing 2 games a week this year is too much now IMO. He was great for us last year.

Jeez with our success I'd have expected that list to be much longer.

May have to evolve his game a bit more, because he can't get to the byline as effectively. Perhaps more in the mould of a shadow striker, even right mid.

But back in the day, the vast majority of our players would have been British Isles based, and Scotland, Wales and Ireland have hardly set the world alight and England have only shone once or twice (plus we've traditionally be overlooked when it comes to England)

Kewell said that the Crotia result meant more to him then Istanbul, so may I be the first to suggest that we burn him?

To him it probably did. He got injured early on in Istanbul, was booed off by some of his own supporters and played no part in the comeback. He played an integral part in getting there, particularly in the Olympiakos game, but was nothing more than a spectator for the vast majority of the game.

He was as delighted as anybody when we won, that is clear from the pics and videos, but the Croatia game was different-he personally played a huge role.

Sing it, Pretty Boy.

This was probably the biggest match he didn't get injured in since scoring on his derby début, the unlucky sod.

Great celebration for the goal as well, one of the best so far this World Cup, Tardelliwise.

Excuses, excuses. As far as I am concerned, every person in the worlds greatest day ever was Istanbul.

For me, one of his biggest attributes with his current style of play is his ability to kill the ball dead, stick his a*** out and shield of any tackle, then pass it to his own man. Smicer was also reliable like this.

How England could do with this type of player when under pressure!!!

He did well last night. I just dont think Harry's overly happy with us anymore.
