Match Topic Newcastle United vs Liverpool - Premier League, 25th August @ 8pm

I mean this is where (once again) rugby's approach is way better. The conversation would have been Ref: I've seen the player make an out of control tackle which I think is a borderline red/yellow card offence. Please review it, show me the footage and let me know your opinion. And even if the ref had missed it, TMO in real-time would be in his ear - without prompting - saying "we think there's been a serious foul play offence and we's like you to review it" Rugby's about getting the right decision, football seems more focused on justifying the ref's real-time decision making. It's s***e. -

Yeah agreed, but for the programme to have any meaning (!) they should be reviewing the incident from start to finish. The only reason this one gets included on the programme is that Hooper needs VAR to bail out his mistake, so they should be talking about that as well. The VAR for the Chelsea v Fulham game got taken off his next game (us v Arsenal) for his obvious error. Not aware there were any consequences to Hooper for his screw up here. -

Definitely a numbers guy. Typo'd "possibly" twice in the same post -
State of this article https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cwyl38115j2o Emphasises him being a former Marine and how he's being hard-done-by getting access to his solicitors. Barely a mention of the victims.

Don't be such a mentality midget City finished 13 points behind so they can't possible catch up, Arsenal finished 10 points behind and beating them on Sunday means they can't possible catch us again now. In fact that means we should get another trophy presentation at our next home league game. And that's REALLY gonna piss off the blues***e -

Yeah that's the point. If Hooper - who was 20m away with an unobstructed line of sight - can't see that's a red in real time, then we should be questioning why he's a "top-level" ref. -
I think we were - especially with a £60m release clause. But as Sammy said, you're not signing a player for big bucks to take Mo's spot, 'cos he plays 80-90% of the time. Next season though you'd imagine would be his last with us, so seems like the right time to bring a high calibre replacement in.

Good to see this happening - that'll be new training facilities for the seniors, women and academy all in the last 5 or 6 years I had in my head that when they built the new first team facility there, it moved everyone into one building. Looking at Google Maps, the Academy is on the same site but their building is down the other end.

Agreed. But if we decide to move on (and FWIW I don't think we will) it's not like he's an Wirtz/Isak-level player that I'm gonna be gutted about not getting.

All the indications are that Guehi still wants to come here, but don't forget that the main reason we were in for him is that he was gettable way below market value 'cos his contract's nearly up. At full price I don't think we get involved. We may decide next summer that he doesn't represent as good value on a free, 'cos we'll have to give him bigger wages and a signing on fee. If so, other centre-backs exist and we'll move on to someone else dead good.

Not out of the question, just that he'll be in the final year of his contract next year Anyone from the ressies looking OK in that position that could be backup? Owen Beck's probably not making it here now even as a back up. Can't even get in the Cymru squad at the moment. Luke Chambers maybe?

Being discussed in the CL thread

That's what I meant - I'm assuming Robbo is the backup LB now I mean hopefully Robbo will stay in the role - I'd be happy to see him here another year

What are we looking at next summer? Goalies: Depends whether Ali want sot go do Saudi next summer. Probably wouldn't lead to a new signing - reckon Mamardashvili becomes #1, Jaros comes back from loan as #2 Defence: Guehi in, Konate or Gomez out. Possibly a Robbo replacement - he's out of contract in the summer Midfield: Someone for Endo - Wharton keeps getting mentioned, although dunno if Palace will be talking to us by that point Forward: Chiesa out, Mo's eventual replacement. Olise seems like the ideal kind of player, Semenyo might be another although he'll be 26 by then. Weird that the three being talked about are all Palace or recently ex-Palace

Pretty sure there's a plan in place around AFCON, be interested to see what it is. Reckon it's an 9/10 for me. We've basically just done the guts of a massive overhaul that should set the team up to get back to a place where it's just one or two changes each season in the future. And with our spending power these days, they can be great calibre players. Guehi not happening wasn't the club's fault but with the Konate situation and Leoni being so young it would have been nice to get that over the line.

It was Molby. The rest of his posts were part of the cover.

Yeah Danns and Nyoni have been at the club long enough - two seasons or more - to qualify for the B list (unlimited U21 players). Rio's only been here a season and a bit. Ngumoha is a real edge-case for the rules. Gone into more detail in the squad thread
-
That's the second time in the last couple of weeks you've argued against signing a CB. You OK lad? One blink for yes, two for no
-
As mentioned in the CL thread - no Chiesa in the squad. https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/clubs/7889--liverpool/squad/ Reading the rules again (link in the big post above), it's 'cos we've had to use an NHG slot on Ngumoha. He doesn't qualify for the B-List 'cos he's only been with us just over a year. He will qualify for it next season and then be classed as Club Trained by the time he's over 21. I thought he'd be able to take a "Home Grown - Association Trained" slot 'cos of his time at Chelsea - but again the rule prevents this. His 15th birthday year (23-24 season) was at Chelsea, 16th (24-25) was with us and he's just started his 17th birthday year - so only two seasons count for this rule. So basically if you move between English clubs as a teenager you have to wait until you're 18 to play Champions League unless you're exceptional enough to justify an NHG slot. Seems a bit nuts to me.
-
Looks like they've changed the rules this season so instead of two seasons to qualify as club or association trained, it's now three - unfortunately they've deleted last year's rulebook now so can't check. But it does appear to mean that we've got to register Ngumoha as an NHG player this season, hence someone (Chiesa) having to miss out. Yeah that would have probably happened if we had 5 CBs.
