Think he mainly plays left side these days & Robbo's off so we need a backup for Kerkez. The fact that he can also cover right side is useful given that our main two can't stay fit and Ramsay seems to have shagged Slot's dog. Just seems like a name that might fit which works on a number of levels - I don't actually expect to see him back here but we could do far worse. It's harder than it ever was for Academy players to break into the first team. Deals like we've done with Quansah to allow him to get 2 or 3 years solid game time for a good team and then buy him back at a fair price if he develops - I reckon they're gonna become more common. The alternative is the Academy develops good young players that stagnate for lack of game time, which makes it all a bit pointless. I don't think Neco is coming back, but he's one of those rare youngsters that has gone away and proved himself elsewhere. I mentioned him 'cos he covers two positions where we have a need and he won't take up a non-home-grown slot.

There’s a lot to be said for getting Academy players back who’ve gone on to get loads of game time elsewhere and improved their game. Nothing to do with him being Welsh - should probably happen with the likes of Quansah and possibly Morton in the next couple of years too

I just don't think he's that kind of player. We've not seen many occasions when he's been asked to be the senior CB - but he's generally not played well when he has. Hope he proves me wrong but I think we're gonna need to upgrade on him for a proper leader in a couple of years. We've been spoiled with Virg.

This is the thing, that shouldn't have been necessary. He needed 4-6 weeks for his pre-season, which would have taken us to the October international break. But seemingly the way his conditioning was handled has f***ed his whole season, 'cos he was nowhere near fit enough when we started playing him and never recovered. Obviously getting grocked didn't help - but it just looks like exactly what happened with Chiesa last season.
