Gerrard is older, but this doesn't mean he should be dropped (Digger dropping into midfield anyone?). All that needs to happen is for him to be given a defined position, wherever that maybe, and stick to it - not try the 'gung - ho do everything' role as there should be other younger players to do the donkey work. Put him in CM and let him influence and pass it around, with the occasional run forward. Get someone brain dead in January that doesn't understand anything apart from putting the ball in the net and bingo.
