The hoof out of defence (and it's not just Sami that does it) is the single most frustrating thing about our style of play at the moment. There's a time and a place for a long ball forward, but we do it too much. There's just no need for it when you consider the quality of our midfielders.

I hope he does well, but I think he's past his sell-by date at this stage. Fantastic player for us and just as important as Sami in the GH years. Pretty good fly-keeper too.

O'Neill's teams are functional but effective. Having watched his teams over the years, I think a lot of the criticisms about the style of play he goes for are wide of the mark. He likes his width, which is something that we were seriously lacking under GH.
