Good signing that. They're better fixed upfront than most of their counterparts outside the top four now, with Spurs one of the obvious exceptions.

Was reading an interview with Kevin Doyle today, who I would class as a very good player with a great head on his shoulders. Anyhow, he said Carra is the best defender he came across in the premier league and it wasn't just his defending he was impressed with, but his organisation of the defence. Carra and Terry are England's two best centre backs, right back shouldn't even be an issue. Ferdinand is rubbish, all this 'good on the ball' nonsense is wearing so thin, you'd swear he was Beckenbauer. Vidic is there one season and is already way more important to that team.

Would be a good signing for them.

Agree with that, he's a real highlight reel man. He's not as good as some are making him out to be right now, but apart from Drogba no forward had a better season in the premiership. McCarthy did really well too this season. I think Berbatov is a better player though and there's no question of him being good enough for us. Any team would take him.

Cole hasn't been great, but better than Riise. As or Heinze he's been quality since he recovered from the injury set backs. If it's possible to look at it objectively, there's far more left backs that have also been better than hours, I just chose to highlight the strength in depth in that particular position of the two clubs that we will be challenging for the premier league. Riise was very good the season before this. But he has been crap all year this year. It's as simple as that. Watching him hoof the ball aimlessly upfield gets to be infuriating very quickly. He's also been dodgy defensively. It was open season down out left last night. By the way, I'm not faulting his effort or desire, just his ability and his intellect!

Yeah, they will be expected to crack the top four after this summer. Hard to see it happening for them though. Decent side. Berbatov has been immense this season, bar Drogba possibly the best striker on show. Despite having about 100 midfielders, I still see that as their weakest area, particularly in relation to the top four teams.

All this is particularly laughable in light of the stick that comes Steve Finnan's way on here for not offering much going forward (even though he does). Riise bombs forward almost every time and will sometimes score a great goal. Give me a full back who is defensively aware, knows how to pass the ball (with both feet) and looks after his defensive duties before everything else. Riise is not up to scratch. Man Utd and Chelsea have two left backs each better than ours IMHO. (Heinze, Evra, Cole and yes, even Bridge). We have, however, the best right back in the league and the best centre back, a star in the making in Agger and a class keeper.

I'm sorry, but that is nonsense. He was awful.

I thought Riise showed about as little tactical awareness as he could. Milan got a huge amount of joy down our left. Finnan and Pennant were excellent on one side, Riise and Zenden were rubbish on the other. Not that they didn't try, they were just rubbish. Riise was constantly caught out of position and was terrible in possession. Zenden was just crap in every possible way. Though he had an all right game, I was disappointed with Xabi for the amount of silly fouls he made, which were at least five. Substitutions were a bit late in the day, Crouch and Kewell did all right though. Though Mascherano and Pennant were our best by some distance. Dirk worked really hard, but was completely isolated. For all our possession and hard work it was hard to see where the goals were going to come from. Worst thing about tonight is that in spite of all I've just said we were by far the better team. I hope to god we get some quality down the left hand side and a top quality forward in. The effort tonight couldn't be faulted.

The original post was a fair enough point, as were the ones about the money he's had to spend. There was only one way for Sunderland to go in fairness. He seems level-headed enough so far as a manager. The people who obviously hate him so much, think he's a c***, want him to die etc etc are only paying him a huge unintended compliment as far as I can see. Who cares about Sunderland or Roy Keane? I wouldn't have though so many to be honest.

What hard-working thirty dollar whore deserved that? I hope there's none online reading that..

While we should trounce them.. I'm surprised people aren't being more careful about putting the mockers on this one!

Yeah, the Sky's the limit. And (while I'm at it) balls that get nowhere near the top corner always seem to be flying into it too.
