  1. Everything is a 'wonder goal' these days. What ever happened to good goals? Which is what his was. Thoughts on him are pretty much the same, talented lad, could play better though I reckon going by past form. With Kuyt, Crouch and Bellamy up front, if we get really good service from the wings, which we've been lacking for years, we'd be a far better team.
  2. Should be pointed out that a poster commenting on the piece made that remark about learning to forgive and not James Stephenson of the BBC. As we all know, you can't legislate for what some idiot will post. In regard to the piece itself, I think this is the best defence mustered from the BBC's point of view. 'In my view, that doesn't mean that Kelvin MacKenzie should be banned from appearing on television. Not least, because that's one way his views can be challenged by those who disagree with them..... There is clearly a lot of anger towards Kelvin MacKenzie. His appearance gave the audience the chance to judge for themselves whether they agree with him or his many critics.'

  4. I hate to see anyone behaving like he does on a football field. Doesn't matter who it's for or who it's against. As regards the incident itself, Gilberto should have known better, especially with the game they have next weekend.
  5. I wouldn't say he's even as good. And he's definitely not as good as Dirk either. And I'm not sure he'd have as much impact as Crouch - the number of goals they have scored this year has already been pointed out. He's not worth the money it would take to buy him. We should be - and I imagine (and hope) are - looking at far better players. I don't think Defoe is even their best striker, Berbatov is. Not that I'm saying we should try sign him either.

  10. Yeah, he's not a bad player either, always seems to be one of Israel's best when I see them too. Definitely a far better centre back than Ferreira or that mad dutch man, who are full backs really I suppose and not even that good there.

  13. From today's Indo. I reckon we should be credited here somewhere for providing all the info! Dolan primed for return with Wexford ADVERTISEMENT PAT DOLAN is set for a return to Eircom League football with the newly formed Wexford Youths FC, if they succeed in gaining a licence to play in next season's First Division. The charismatic former St Patrick's Athletic and Cork City manager, who is now working as a television analyst with Setanta Sports, is expected to assume the role of part-time head coach with the new club. Construction millionaire Mick Wallace, who is a close friend of Dolan's, is behind the venture to bring Eircom League football to the Model County. Wallace, who is a massive supporter of youth football in the South East, will learn at the end of this month if the facilities and infrastructure at his site just outside Wexford town are adequate enough to gain a First Division licence. Open trials are being staged in Wexford this Saturday for those players wishing to impress the prospective coaching staff and gain a place in the new setup. Meanwhile, Gary O'Neill became the latest player to leave troubled Shelbourne when he joined St Patrick's Athletic yesterday. And the Saints are hoping that Dave Rogers will join him and another former team-mate, Joseph Ndo, at Richmond Park for the new campaign. O'Neill, who was out of contract with Shels, is a key capture for Saints manager John McDonnell, who is looking to fill the void left by the departures of Trevor Molloy and Paul Keegan to Motherwell. Rogers will go before a tribunal to argue that he is a free agent and therefore entitled to leave Shels after alleged non-payment of wages. Daniel McDonnell
  14. There's definitely an argument to me made for him too, I reckon Fabregas just about shades it myself, but Gilberto has been doing a great job in there. Apart from him it's not a midfield that offers that much protection to the back four at times.
  15. Don't know about player of the year, but he's not getting enough credit at all for how good he's been playing. Giggs and Scholes' contributions to United's resurgence have been almost completely overlooked amid all the hype about Ronaldo.
  16. Yeah, that's pretty much how Giles - and a lot of people - feel. He could be a lot smarter. However, there's more to than that with Ronaldo, I wouldn't deny he's a good player with a lot of talent and in great from right now.. but he's just very, very unlikeable. Regardless of who you support. I mean Paul Scholes is playing very well right now too and fair play to him, but Ronaldo... He's really hard to stomach for lots of reasons and I'd say some of these particularly annoy an old pro like Giles.
  17. I don't think so. but it doesn't matter as he will only change back again when it suits him. Giles is consistent though and he still thinks he's vastly over-rated. Think they called him second rate before last weekend's game, which was live on RTE, so my brother told me anyway. He's not as bad as Dunphy says is he and he's not as good as most others are saying he is IMO.

  19. If Fabregas is suspended (maybe someone can shed some light on that issue), then he is a far bigger loss than the other Van Persie and Adebayor. Been their best player this year (season even!) by a stretch.
  20. No, not Mahhie.. though every time I hear that (in that particular form) it reminds me of a seedy night in Liverpool.. so thanks! Yeah, Doyle has made them take temporary notice of what's going on, but he was a stand out over here and even at international level underage. Think another reason is that there's f*** all difference between the best scottish and Irish teams anymore, bar the two obvious exceptions.
  21. Every young lad's dream! I wonder how many GAA players will be encouraged to defect, there's on high profile one in the works already... Wallace also said Dolan turned down Bohs ans Shels to manage Wexford Youths. On an unrelated note, isn't it funny how much interets the Scottish clubs are paying to the young Irish lads now? I reckon ten per cent of the league's attendance (bout 15 a week?!) is made up of Jocks on scouting missions!
  22. Not being smart, but if they fear he will move on and become the player so many expect why don't they just let him play and see if becomes that player there? You'd imagine they need any bit of quality they have right now. With Pardew gone I thought the two lads might have been given a chance.
  23. Yeah, it will happen all right. Trials are already arranged, they could get quite a decent team I'd imagine. Will be well run anyway, I'll guarantee you that. http://www.unison.ie/irish_independent/sto...;issue_id=14967
  24. Wexford are entering a representative team for the first time this year and holding trials soon. It will be an amateur side made up of local talent. Entering the league with just about the best facilities in it though, once the new stand is finished. Pat Dolan is going to manage for his old mate Mick Wallace, who has pumped ?2m into the grounds already. The stringent requirements are more like guidlines to be ignored though, you'd have no clubs left if they were enforced as most of them are run in the most ridiculous manner possible.
