i honestly dont see how 45 minutes of a friendly is gonna tire Stevie G appreciably.

I also don't see what the point in him playing it is either.

Lampard has missed 1 game in 105 years and that was with a cold.

f*** off england.

Cobs - england are w*****s. They really are. I hate them.

yeah, yeah, yeah....

someone will be on in a minute complaining that Crouch has been overlooked and what a disgrace it is....

I'm delighted that Crouch isn't playing.

I only wish he wasn't playing as a punishment (reward?) for breaking Gary Neville's leg.

I hate England.

Stevie has 45 minutes now alongside Carrick to show exactly why he should be the attacking midfielder in the side.

Nah, he'll be played at left-wing, right-back and then left-back just to see if Joe Cole or Jermaine Jenas can play in the attacking midfield role. At best, he'll play in attacking midfield with some clown like Rio Ferdinand alongside him making him and the rest of the team look as bad as possible.

It'll be beautifully ironic if the extra England games means Stevie is knackered at the end of the season and can't play his usual energetic game at the World Cup.

and how the feck is this 45 minutes going to result in tiring him out to that extent?

SGE said "at least 45 minutes"

It's the only chance for him to have 7 days recovery between matches rather than 3, as he will now until the middle of April and beyond if we get past Benfica.

It's idiocy for a meaningless friendly that'll have a dozen subsitutions in it.

you make out like othrwise he'd be rested up in bed between matches, if he wasn't with England he'd be training anyway. This is a friendly, he wants to play, it isn't going to kill him.

Training and matches are totally different

And your argument is flawed. If it's not going to harm him because it's not serious why bother playing him?

for the manager to look at another central midfield option if Lampard got injured or suspended, to give that midfield a bit of experience against south american opposition, cos this is the last chance for it before the world cup...

this isn't tough to work out.

What if Gerrard is injured or suspended? How will he know what to do? :o

It's not like they haven't played plenty of games together this team, Cobs - against opposition from all corners of the globe. It's a waste of time and energy playing a player as experienced as Gerrard in a poxy friendly when you know that he possibly has 2 games a week coming from here til the end of April. You may as well play fringe players if you are going to play the experience against SA opposition card. At least it's actually valid.

I f***ing hate england.

And I hope they accidentally perform invasive surgery on Lampard when treating his hamstring injury.
