Let's get Kevin Nolan this summer

Recommended Posts

1. The lad is a great player who gives 100% every game.

2. He's a Liverpool fan

3. He can put the ball in the back of the net.

Three attributes Rafa would love to have in a new signing. I don't know if Rafa would play him in the role he plays for Bolton but I would love to see him as an out and out striker who let's defenders know he is there while still having some very deft touches. I personally would prefer him over the likes of Kuyt as we know his heart is in it and he would give 110% for the badge. If Big Sam gets the England job I reckon a bigger club would come in for him and I would rather it be us.

Mentioned it the other week. I think he'll be a great addition to the team/squad.

He'll never get an England place either unless he leaves Bolton.

did you put this in the general so that less people would laugh at you for saying sign him as a striker?

you look around our team, and the last place we need strengthening is central midfield. i think the money it would take to buy Nolan (and i cant see Bolton letting him go for any less than 7mil) would be much better spent on a striker or right winger

He would command silly money, I agree that the money it would take to land him could be better spent on an actual need.

We have got Alonso and Hamann as holding cm and Stevie and Momo to play in front of either of them. Hamann is ageing and I would surely take Barton, who is perfectly capable of playing the holding role, as a replacement for him. If Momo doesn´t recover (I hope he will of course) Nolan would be a good replacement in the attacking/supporting midfield role. He doesn´t cover as much ground as Momo does (but who does?) but scores a lot more and is a tough sob. Zenden hasn´t played a lot in cm for us because of Harry´s injury, but he did well at cm for Boro. Not sure if he´s more suited to the holding role or the more attacking role though...

Kev used to be a striker in school, and he scored hatfuls.

I don't think its ridiculous to suggest he could make a top class striker again. He's big and strong and would play well with his back to goal, and has a fantastic instinct for being in the right place at the right time.

Add to that his finishing ability and work rate, and he has all the necessary attributes to go back to playing where he did as a kid very succesfully.

Yes, most of his experience in the top flight has been gained playing in midfield, but there are plenty of players who can be used in midfield or just off the striker around at the moment, and he could do the same.

He'd be made up to see Liverpool supporters praising him, he's red through and through. I agree that position isn't top priority at the moment, but he could be a very useful player to have in the squad if we got a top class striker and wide man sorted out first.

Good comments Leo, I to think he still has a strikers instincts in finishing. I think he would be a great option in the Davies, Beattie mode (but obviously better)for making defenders know he was there and throwing his weight around, just like Heskey was supposed to. It would be a great option as we don't really have anyone in that mould. The way he pressurized the Fulham defenders Saturday and created a goal out of nothing is something we need badly.

Most good footballers were strikers as kids, because they were by far the best players. Was talking to someone who played with Gerrard as a kid and he said Stevie played up front and scored over a hundred goals in a season, doesn't mean we should play him as a striker.

Nolan is most effective breaking from midfield, into space made by strikers.
