Crouch 7: Nice touch for the goal. might have gotten sent off..

It must be said that Newcastle were utter crap and our forwards had oodles of sace and the midfield cut through theirs like a knife through butter

Pretty close to what I thought. I'd have given Cisse more however and I would have given Garcia a 5. He was the worst on the pitch today for us and as you said, very wasteful. 9 for Morientes might be a bit strong. he was excellent, but this was more of a fantastic team performance.

Thought Garcia played well. His movement is terrific and he is constantly looking to create. He was solid in his own half as well. He was only frustrating in front of goal. I think people need to accept that every squad needs a "wasteful" player who can do something unlikely.

its better to waste against a poor newcastle team when we are cruising than in the semi fianl of the CL

Little Luis can be a liability at times. He?s a nice little player with great skill but he's constantly giving the ball away and doesn't have much of an end product. I don't know why he was screaming at Crouch, Peter did very well to find him and Luis missed what was an open goal.

We certainly need a proper winger to play on the right (and left, unless Kewell can miraculously discover his best form) and when we do, I don't know where that will leave Luis.

Reina: 7 - little to do but dealt with the few things well.

Finnan: 8 - Solid as always and got forward well.

Carra: 8 - Solid as always.

Hyypia: 8 - Solid as always.

Riise: 7 - Good in defence and good going forward. Average game for him but that is good enough most of the time.

Garcia: 7 - Great movement, not lucky today with his little tricks but overall a good game.

Kewell: 8 - Best so far (ignoring the first few months for us). Beat his man on a regular basis and whipped in crosses. Something we've been lacking for some time. Getting better with each game.

Alonso: 8 - He's simply mastered the art of passing. And he's getting better each game at tackling back.

Gerrard: 9 - Great performance in every aspect. Defended Alonso as well and got stuck in. No more Mr. NiceGuy from him.

Crouch: 8 - Again, great performance. But he'd score more goals if he just shot at goal instead of laying it off to other players (example: layoff to Garcia today instead of shooting himself.

Morientes: 8 - Getting better and better. Great passing, great movement and perhaps most importantly showing more aggression than before.

Flo-Po: 7 - Good touches and movement.

Cisse: 7 - Looking better each game. Obviously trying to be more of a team player, but is it too late?

Josemi: 7 - Short time but did what he had to do well.

I was screaming at crouch to hit it first time, i think luis was doing the same.

agree totally with red mist on both posts, except i give the mom and 9 to Gerrard, behaved like the great captain he is.

kewell is the only out and out winger we have in the squad...he is improving with every game, but still lacks pace and confidence to take players on.

he only succeeded once to cross from the byline today.

Garcia we all know he is not an out and out winger and today was not of his best outings imho. too wasteful and not productive enough. his best moments were in the last 20mins of the match.

we really need to add more out and out wingers to the squad. These will provide with more clear-cut chances for our forwards.

c) tedious WUM.

1127855[/snapback]

Well I must be since I don't conform like many other sheep here would have me do. I've seen Luis play enough to justify what I've said about him. He's a good player but fecking wasteful at times and will never be a winger in a million years.

Being contrary for the sake of it does not mean it's a valid opinion. Posting w@nk to generate responses is tedious and ultimately on previous record, a pointless wind up.

Utterly clueless.

If Crouchy had rolled it to him, it was a goal. Instead he scooped it to him and made him half volley it from in front of him.

No big deal really, since they are both great and it is you who is stupid

Totally uncalled for. Garcia had a poor game today - there were plenty of other incidents to back that up, his pointless volley from outside the box from Gerrard's cross when unmarked, his crazy decision to pass to Morientes after Morientes had successfully pulled two defenders out of position to leave Garcia unmarked and on the edge of the box... he is utterly inconsistent in his play and while he can be great he can also be poor. Today he was poor.

Reina 7: Stealing a living, idle b*****d! ;) Reina's exactly what you want in a goalkeeper. He may not have much (or anything at times) to do during a game, but if something comes his way, you know he's going to deal with it.

Finnan 7: Did well again defending, never seems to have a bad match, and overlapped very well down the right hand side.

Carra 8: Was Owen on the pitch?

Sami 8: Was Shearer? Just whp did Newcastle have upfront today?

Riise 8: Overlapped well, defended very well, with a superb headed clearence in the first half. Seems at times to be the forgotten man of our back 4, but you always know Riise will give it everything when he pulls on the shirt.

Garcia 7: Usual mix of sublime and ridiculous at times, can link up beautifully well and carve teams open, but then fails to control a ball and the move breaks down. Wouldn't have him any other way.

Alonso 8: Had so much time and space today to ping balls around, he must have thought Christmas had carried over.

Gerrard 9: You sir are a monster.

Kewell 9: Was absolutely superb. Denied by a stunning save from Given, worked his flank wonderfully well, and gave Newcastle's right back a torrid time. His crossing was outstanding and so was his workrate. More of that Harry, and everyones a winner.

Crouch 8: Lovely header to score his goal (feck off Press Association) people may think he's just a lanky guy, but he powered his way in to meet Kewells cross, and his touch to setup Gerrard was sublime.

Morientes 9: Brilliant. Touch, awareness, passing, movement were all top top class. Almost scored a fantastic individual goal right at the start of the game, and didn't stop working from then of. Newcastle couldn't deal with him, and he should have won a penalty off Solano. This is the Morientes we all know and love, and to those who think he should be sold :nono:

Gerrard is my Man of the Match followed by Morientes with Kewell taking the 3rd spot.

We rolled Newcastle over today, with a confidence and pomp that I've not seen for quite a while. The eyes of the nation were watching and waiting for Owen to break all our hearts, and what they saw was a lesson in fluid attacking football.
