What does top gear say about him?

I've watched all the youtube stuff going and I'm totally convinced.

Truth be told, I think the way to judge these things is to way up the profile of the signing and then marry that to the style of the player, to assess whether or not it seems the right buy (given that we're not qualified scouts).

With Can, I'm factoring in that :

- he's a good age (nearly 21), so has a higher ceiling, but is old enough to be first team ready.

- was rated a real prospect at Bayern (who are very good, so that's no mean benchmark)

- is a German U21 international (a good level again)

-has considerable high level experience for his age (plenty of Bundesliga and CL appearances)

-we had to pay a fair wedge for him, and would probably have had to pay more but for his release clause. Price is an indicator of level, obviously (albeit a far from fool proof one).

Add to that the fact he's a tall physically strong looking defensive midfielder, and you're looking for him to fill a 'type' void we've had in central mid for a while now. If he's also genuinely 'box to box' and can really play left back and centre back, it'll be some bonus.

Sign Emre to hold mid

He needs to keep it calm

Keep it safe from harm

In pouring rain ( on a Tuesday night in Stoke )

Sign him now this summer

Ayre, we're begging you

Do what you have to do

just this one time

As our souls, heal the shame

Of singing Charlie Adam's name

Lord, we're signing Emre Can

He's a better man.

This guy clearly knows his onions :

This interesting too :

In 2009, Bayern Munich recognised his talents and secured his signature. In a bid to aid his acceleration into first-team football, the German giants sold him to Leverkusen in August 2013.

"Emre Can is one of the biggest talents in German football," said Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge at the time. "With this step, we want to make sure he gets enough playing practice, for example like Toni Kroos had at Leverkusen, Philipp Lahm at Stuttgart or David Alaba at Hoffenheim."

From about an hours worth of footage, with some duplication, i thought he looked composed on the ball and tactically versatile and the goal he scored against Mexico showed that once up to speed, he can go past a player. Just lacked a bit of acceleration, pace but then so did Xabi.

He looks a potential star with not as much improvement required as someone like Alberto to adjust to this league and our system. Like someone said, German efficiency with some Turkish delight.

All this has a feeling of 'Up yours Bayern' as well. Which is nice.

Lambert then Can in a week.

I'm buzzing. Is anyone else buzzing?! The new season is going to be brilliant.

Gives us interesting options. With Can and Henderson in front of Stevie we'd be a proper physical force.

He's was clearly very highly rated by Bayern. Makes you wonder why sell him for £4m rather than loan him out. It seems they have dropped a b****** on the buy back clause as it didnit prevent overseas sale. Has Ayre been moonlighting?

Yeah, feels like a man city or Bayern central mid. Silly and slick but equipped to dog it out too.

Compare and contrast with last summers similar chronology.

German efficiency allied with Turkish passion - doesn't get much better than that!

hopefully not the other way round.

The thread title is making my eyes bleed DH - a memo went round about that kind of stuff yesterday.
