Big moment for him last night, and Gerrard's comments about him after the game were quite exciting.

At 20/21 and nowhere near the first team squad for so long I just didn't see where/when his breakthrough was going to come. Suddenly he's at Melwood and in the squad ahead of a £7m signing. He seems to have the manager's eye and confidence, and you feel with Rodgers that he'll now want to actively push the lad on. A start at Arsenal maybe ?

What did Gerrard say about him?

Certainly looked calm on the ball for someone making their debut. Pity he just lacked a tiny bit of composure when he could have scored at the end (although that probably would have resulted in crazy over-hype)

He was the player that fed Sturridge the ball for the pen. One touch to control then moved it quickly into feet. In that aspect alone he slipped in nicely and didn't look out of place. However, its a minor cameo and not something to be reading into the tea leaves or anything. He'll probably be competing with Suso next season unless we do a Suso with him.

Gerrard said that it had only been a matter of time before Teixeira was in the first team, and that he'd spotted his talent at Sporting and knew he was the real deal 2 years ago.

Fair play to him , good control , quick passes , good vision . Put in a tidy cameo last night .

A season out playing regularly at a competitive level would be a good idea for him , he has lots of talent he still needs work on the graft side of his game .

He's a good footballer. Real eye for a pass and great close control. If he can add Coutinho's newfound work rate he could be a real player.

From what I've seen of him he's very competitive and hard working for his type of player.

I didn't mean to give the impression that he doesn't work hard , I agree with your comment , it's just if he is going to be within the midfield three his workrate needs to be really good .

He is an excellent prospect , hopefully he can continue the progression .

What was the deal with Alberto? Not even on the bench - was he hurt?

I feel sorry for the lad to be honest. He leaves Sevilla to join a massive club who are prepared to pay serious money for what is essentially a prospect. He must have been made up. He's obviously came thinking the manager wants me and I'll get a few games this season and then maybe cement my place in the team over the next 2 but it's been apparent from Day 1 that Rodgers doesn't rate him (fair enough, he obviously has his reasons) so in that case we're better off just allowing the boy to leave this summer so that he can progress his career cos it really doesn't look like it's going to happen for him here.

When you consider that we can add Suso to this squad next season and if Teixeira can fulfill his potential then I see no reason to be hanging on to him.

plus it's a good way of telling FSG they can stick their value policy up their hoops, which he's angling to do anyway

Rodgers is constantly praising some of the players for the effort they are putting in to training, those players that are getting the praise are getting games and cameos. Perhaps Alberto isn't putting the same level of effort in as the like of Texiera and if that's the case he needs to step it up rather than feel sorry for himself.

well, as Richwilks has pointed out, if the lad isn't putting in the effort into training then obviously not, but on the basis that he's only 20 and on the verge of building his career, seeing it hit a brick wall rather than go play football every week then yeah, I do feel sorry for him. Of course he's well paid but so's everyone else. So I really don't think that should come into it.

I'm not organising a novena for the chap. I just feel a bit sorry for him. I'm sure he'll be ok!

Absolutely.

Deffo, Rodgers is all over this and it is great to see.

Perfect.
