Shelvey

Think he's going to be a player, came on for the under 21's yesterday and was pinging balls around looking to get involved and drive the game and demonstrated why he fits in with what we are doing. We are building a team of players that want to play football, want the ball at their feet and look forward. His pass to Suarez for the goal against Fulham last year shows what he's about and his passing yesterday was excellent. Someone posted that he may have tried to force it too much and while I can see that I'd rather a player at his stage try too much than not enough.

I'm delighted he didn't go on loan as part of the Adam deal, I think him being here allows us to let Meireles leave, he may not be at Meireles standard yet but looks good enough to go significantly beyond that, as did Henderson, albeit as different types of player.

I'm usually pretty ambivalent to international football but I'm enjoying football more than I have in a few years and will watch stuff I usually wouldn't but I think the under 21's will be really good for him and Flannagan to get some game time.
