Just seen the schedule. Tournament finishes on 24th July !! ffs. Lucas and Suarez are going to miss at least 3 weeks of the new season I'd have thought, and that's if they don't pick up an injury. Not exactly going to help our bid to 'hit the ground running'.

Suarez missed about 9 weeks of the dutch league didn't he? So it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

The best player's play the most games, That's never gonna change. No point in getting annoyed about it or using it as an excuse if we start badly.

They won't need much training to be fair, but it's not ideal obviously. Suarez looks like he just enjoys playing so I'm not too worried.

Well, they won't need the 6 week break and 6 weeks of pre season training that most of squad will have had, but they will need at least 2 or 3 weeks off, followed by a couple of weeks of a 'pre-season ' at least, I would have thought.

They have been resting/holidaying before the tournament, they won't need 5 weeks off before they are available,

Uruguay have got a competitive group.

With Peru, Chile and Mexico. Lets hope the Manc w***** does us a favour and brings Suarez home early (12th July)

He won't be playing. It's a second string Mexico - they're invited guests and their competition, the Gold Cup, is on at the minute which they're giving preference to. Given 5 of their players got banned for Clenbuterol the other day, it'll probably be more second string than they originally planned. Here's the preliminary squad. http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/1917/mexican-national-team/2011/05/23/2500847/mexico-names-preliminary-squad-for-copa-america

Uruguay will win the group, and at worst make the semi finals.

It's ridiculous how late the tourney starts.

Why? God forbid that the South Americans should run a tournament that fits in with the South American football calendar.

This is why we need a squad.

New striker and new midfielders to come in. We'll be flying with maximum points when those 2 return and we can ease them in slowly.

HAve we got anyone in the squad who can cover for Lucas? Spearing to start the season perhaps? Henderson is not the same type of player IMO, but maybe it will be him and Gerrard? Still think we're missing another defensive midfielder.

I've backed Uruguay at 12/1. The World Cup performance was no fluke, their forward line is absolutely incredible, and they're strong defensively.

Probably the only side going into the tournament with some consistency. Argentina have to do well, though, their squad is so strong and they have home advantage.

Poulsen is the only option we've got at the moment, unfortunately.

Remember when Plessis looked great against Arsenal? what happened there?

That Arsenal midfield still hasn't lived down the shame and infamy they brought to their family names
