épieur Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Gerrard has still got quite a few years in him at this club, but at 31 there will come a time in the next 3-4 years where he is no longer a regular he used to be and we'll be looking for someone else to wear the armband. Who do you think is going to be our next captain? Reina seems to be a popular candidate, but I am going to stick my neck out and say that our next captain will be Lucas Leiva.

Think that is a fair shout.
Case Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Assuming Stevie plays for three or four more years, Kelly will be in his early-mid twenties by the time he retires. If he develops as the sort of player we hope he does, I'd have him in as Captain personally.Failing that, Suarez.
smithdown Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Me. I'll do it. "Come on lads, let's pull our collective socks up and give this lot the bum's rush!"

Lark Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 I reckon stevie g will be around for a number of years yet. Thankgod, cos the pickings are slim, imho. Reina is a natural choice, great character, great team player but unless we compete he'd do a torres on us. Lucas, mr reliable, but i think he could be replaced by better midfielders. I imagine once kelly establishes himself as a first team regular, he would be natural choice, but he isn't a first team regular yet. Perhaps andy carroll in a year or two. Henderson. the mentions of the likes of flanagan, wisdom, coady are probably just as likely as the above names. maybe charlie adam (if we ever sign him)

Yes, those 2 look made for each other. It would be telepathic. He's big, he's red, his coffins made of lead, Charlie Death, Charlie Death.
Kvarme Ate My Food Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 him up front with Wagner Love would be a formidable partnership. Shame Steve Claridge doesn't play any more. This I tell you, brother.

Just not dominant enough in his personality or game. Just doesn't come across as a natural leader. You never know, by the time he's 30 he may grow into being that type, but I don't think so. If he makes the grade with us, I think the kid Henderson may be the right type. Seems to do a lot of talking and encouraging on the pitch.
