A formations and transfer thread all rolled into one, which level of hell is this?

For me you play Raul in behind Carroll with Suarez on the left, from what ive seen...it seems to suit all 3 better, plus of course Luis and Raul can quite easily switch.

soo...id be looking at something to this effect

----------------gerrard---lucas-------------

???---------------raul----------------Luis

------------------carroll----------------------

for this to work well, we really need someone with great pace down the left who can provide great crossing of the ball.

It's all about the squad. We've seen how injuries have f***ed us this season and it's very rare that you have a full sqaud to pick from all season. With a few good buys we should have the personel to play a number of formations.

No.

Cos when we lose the ball Suarez drops deep and has to defend the left hand side in that system. That's why when you're playing with 2 real strikers 4231 simply isn't applicable.

yeah but these two are our front two. They'll play when fit and play as a two

don't forget Kenny's 3 at the back with wing-backs option, SammyGAY

and that means you don't have a front two because...

I'm sure they will. Personally I like them in a 3. Suarez is better when he's in and out of the channels.

actually we could simplify and have a front 3, with Carroll as the target man and Luis and Ashley Young buzzing around him

then Gerrard, Lucas (or a world class replacement) and either a Xabi or Masch clone along side

then we need rampaging FBs - vital

the case for Johnson LB and Kelly CB and Flanagan RB gets stronger

if we do this we will have a fantastic 1st 11 and still have not spent much money, which can be invested on those Xabi and Masch equivalents

the formation is in effect 4, 2,1,2,1

Love that. I wouldn't under estimate the impact Gerrard could have on that forward line either.

work all your fantasy teams and next season formations from that.

No!. You're imposing your vision on Kenny. Kenny doesn't see a three. Kenny sees these two.

Dude, that is still a version of 4231 or 451, and one of your support 'strikers' (Suarez and Young) will have to remain essentially a wide midfielder with wide midfielder duties. The system we're playing now has reasonable balance when Meireles is on his game, as he was last night. He's nominally left sided , and slots in there when the ball is lost, but augments Suarez in attack whenever he can. In an ideal world Meireles woudl have done the same job , but coming from the right , and an Ashley Young would take Kuyt's place (well as Dirk did), but play as a left sided midfielder/winger.

Kenny sees what he has at this moment in time. It won't be the same next season.

In the second half last night there were times when we had a three up top that looked like:

Kuyt Suarez Carroll

This had Kuty dropping back and covering and running round like a mad man to great effect, Suarez playing centrally, not giving them a moments piece and then dropping into space when we won the ball looking for space and Carroll leading the line and moving into the middle when we had the ball.

It seems to be all about moving into space, working harding and giving defenders nightmares by not have true set positions (especially Suarez who has a load of freedom to great effect) with Carroll leading the line and doing it f***ing well.

I loved watching it as striker, was awesome stuff.

I think Kenny prefers to have 3 in centre mid for most games. that suggests there'll be 3 up front.

a McManaman type would be good alongside Carroll and Suarez - able to play up front in a three, or get wide on either side, or help out in midfield.

Suarez dropped deep and defended last night. It was 4-4-2 but also 4-5-1. Whatever it was it worked brilliantly. Credit also has to go to Mancini for leaving De Jong on the bench though !!!

Movement is the key for any formation going forward. Suarez is a player who doesn't want to be nailed down to one position.

If we can keep that level of intensity, which to be fair is almost impossible for every game, I think we'll see a lot more consistency regardless of how we set up.
