Does anyone know for sure when his contract is up? I am sure it is the summer. Can anyone see him being here next season? He is a good 4th choice but FSG are looking to reduce the age of the squad so he may well do one. Any ideas?

Dont see any reason for not keeping him. Seems to be happy being a squad player. No reason for NESV not to renew his contract. I think future purchases will be younger players, but he wont cost a fee so no worry about losing money because of his age.

He's done a good job for what, £1.5m?

 

Certainly has done a great job for us and for the fee we paid. Id like to see him given another 12 months. Handy player to have in the squad.

Me too. He offers something different to our current centrebacks.

 

Skretl doesn't really have any outstanding qualities the others don't have more of.

 

 

 

And from a moneyball perspective skretl has higher re-sale value.

He's done a job for us and I think he's better than Skrtel, but we should be getting 2 top CBs in this summer if we're doing things right so there won't be a place for him. I think Ayala and Wilson are capable of taking his place in the squad.

Think we only need 1 CB in the summer and can get away with selling Kyrgiakos and Skrtel

 

Johnson - New CB - Agger - New LB

Kelly - Carragher - Wilson - Aurelio

 

Kelly can cover CB and if we keep Ayala then we're more than covered there.

 

If we're gonna be restricted with the amount of money we can spend we have to spend economically so getting 1 CB will allow money to be spent on teh mor expensive positions.

I'd like to see us keep Andy Carroll's Dad for another season.

This summer should be clearing out the s**** and bolstering our squad with top notch players, which should mean at least one quality centre half.

 

Personally if it was up to me I'd get rid of Skrtel first. Think we'll get back what we paid out on him at least.

If they are better than him they will be in the team. If he is better than them, then keep him.

There's a time when you've got to let the experienced players go to give the young players their chance.

 

Wilson held his own in the CL for Rangers - you've got to give him his chance or he's just going to stagnate.

There's absolutely no benefit in letting him go, if the young centre backs are good enough next season, then they will be selected ahead of him.

As it stands letting him go will require another purchase and another risk.

If you're looking at value for money, Carragher would be the first you'd drop, as the highest paid CB (90k/w) whose qualities are more or less covered by the others, and moreover whose weaknesses go counter to the overall plan the manager and DoF want. Comolli has been looking at Micah Richards, a quick CB, indicating that the team will be moving away from the likes of Kyrgiakos and Carragher. And at their respective salary levels, Carragher should be the first to go. I personally think both can go, leaving the youngsters to step up, and Skrtel too can go if a top class CB is brought in, or if a youngster proves himself in any opportunities given. Whatever his weaknesses, Skrtel does have more of one quality that the DoF/manager rates highly than anyone else, pace. The ability to play a high line strengthens the rest of the team.

Agger's still a bit of a question mark with regard to injuries and Carra's form is patchy. I think we need two top CBs to make a statement.

When looking for top CBs, people need to take into account the story about Liverpool looking at Micah Richards. Rather than looking for great last ditch defenders, or man mountains who dominate the penalty area, the management is looking at a defender whose predominant quality is pace. From the players looked at in the transfer window, you can see how the team pattern is being planned out. Pace at the back, presumably to play as high a line as possible. 3 midfielders, with Dalglish being reasonably satisfied with the back CM options of Lucas and Poulsen, but wanting to reinforce in the passing department. More pace on the wings, but with Kuyt and Maxi filling up one of the spots as something different from the other side.

He might want more than another year if that's the option when his deal runs out in the Summer, he might want to play every game
