I am a tad disappointed that once again we didnt fare very well in the transfer market.

Although i think that Mereiles and Joe Cole will prove to be good acquisitions for us, I think we could have done better even with the limited amount of money available.

Disappointed that we signed Brad Jones for around 2.3mill and sold Cavaillieri (who inmho is a better keeper) for only 1.3mill

Disappointed that we included two of our most promosing youngsters in kalanic and dalla vale in the konchesky deal. Still think we could have signed someone better than konchesky.

Disapponted that we did not recoup more money from the masch transfer.

Disappointed that we didint manage to add another quality player even on loan, like many other clubs did, most notably AC Milan, and to a lesser extent even Birmingham and Newcastle.

Galliani of AC milan takes all the plaudits for me. He managed to lure ibrahimovic and robinho to milan, paying only pennies upfront in the respective loan deals. they managed to build a strong squad without splashing virtually nothing.

Cavalieri went on a free. We terminated his contract. Robinho went for over 20m.

I got the figures from this link

As for Robinho, dont think that they the whole 20mill. they paid only a small amount, this year. They aim to win trophies and then they will have the money to pay the fees agreed.

another disappointing window for me on face value, but ultimately time will tell. circumstances obviously out of Roy's hands control this, but the main disappointment is the failure to bring in back up for Torres. probably not a lot Roy could do with this situation based on the funds we have available, and bringing in a cheap squad filler for the sake of it isn't always a decent alternative (see degen & voronin).

i've been a massive advocate of trying to sign joe cole since it became apparent that he would be available from chelsea, however what i've seen of him so far (it's harsh to judge this early, i know) is that he's a bit of luxury player that can be afforded in a squad like chelsea's, but maybe not what we need right now. early days again, so we can't judge until he's had a full season.

i actually think Aquilani going on loan is a shrewd move from Roy. he needs to get games under his belt, and if he isn't going to get that here (probably could have done a job on Sunday, but how many opportunities would he get if we have a fully fit squad for the next 12 - 15 games?) then it's good that he gets them elsewhere. if he can shine at Juve we're going to get a good return on what we paid out or a fit Aquilani returning to our squad next season.

the Masch transfer, I think we rushed through and took a cut price to get some funds freed for a Torres back-up. hopefully this can be spent in January.

biggest disappointment for me is that we didn't get Sami Hyypia back as I believed Roy tried.

It was even more of a mess than I expected.

I'm not sure what was more idiotic,

paying £7.5m for Konchesky and Jones

letting Aquilani go on loan

or not getting a striker in

All are pretty much indefensible in my eyes.

We pleaded poverty and then spent £7.5M on a reserve goalkeeper and a left back who isn't as good as one we already have here. We loaned Insua, meaning we couldn't even put a fee towards the vastly over-rated fee we have paid for Konchesky. This meant we didn't have the money available to sign a striker.

A striker we've needed for 18 months. We even loaned out Aquilani who would have been another body for the front six.

It's a shambles. A complete and total f***ing shambles.

I agree.

Can someone explain what benefit Aquilani going on loans gives us on the pitch? It must only be due to the fact that his payment was based on appearances so we have got rid?

Konchesky and jones im fine with but im not fine in using talented youngsters in the deal.

Also 100 mil out 50 mil of players in since keane has gone, and we are still (to coin Martin O'Neills phrase) using a 'mish mash' of player swaps to try and sign our targets.

Assest stripping all right.

Think i posted it back in February or March but, as expected, the lack of CL football and investment resulted in one of the ' key ' players being sold.

Not impressed at all by Hodgson's signings ( Cole apart ) and we appear to have wasted several million on a shyte keeper and a left back who, unless he's improved out of sight in the last year, is no improvement on what we had at the club already

Not impressed either by the tactics so far and although it's early days, i see a grim season ahead with Torres being sold next summer,

I have a feeling joe cole will be another Robbie Keane, and disappoint us

but I am feeling overly negative at the moment :(

Meireles I'm hopeful about, but time will tell.

Cole is a slight downgrade on Benayoun, from what I've seen so far.

Jones was a waste of money, we didn't need him for the quota.

I reckon we'll be shocked by the actual Masch fee.

Konchesky will do, but far from delighted. Would prefer to have kept Insua second choice than loan him out and sign Aurelio - makes no sense, that.

Massively underwhelmed by Poulsen

Disgusted that Aquilani was allowed out on loan - how much of his fee is appearance based?

Utterly appalled that we didn't sign a striker, never mind a decent wide player.

I'm very encouraged. We've shifted a lot of players off our books and made a good profit. We sold all our players on our own terms to maximise their value, and acted early and swiftly to strengthen our squad in the areas most in need of it.

First they came for Zoob, and I did nothing for I am not Zoob.

Cole is better than Benayoun.

Mereiles is a damn good player if he can adapt.

Jovanovic is also a good player if he can adapt.

Don't understand the poulson signing

Jones signing is crazy

Konchesky is an improvement in a tricky position, but i think Aurellio will be first choice.

No striker is a crime. We should have got Huntelaar instead of the above 3.

Think Shelvey and Wilson will figure this year, but we need them to be revalations, which i think Wilson could well be.

BUT we didnt have a 7th place squad last year, we had a massively unlucky or underachieving 2/3rd place squad. Losing masch makes us weaker, as it would any team, but i think we are slight;y stronger in attack this year even without the striker.

and can i just say, that why would we consider swapping babel for Carlton cole, just plat babel up front FFS.

i agree on all those points, excellent assessment

have they gone on loan or signed?

Gutted we didnt get at least one forward. If Torres gets injured, which he probably will playing for Spain we are f***ed.

We should have signed Enrique from Newcastle I reckon.

Cant understand why Aqualani was allowed to leave.

Should have probably got in for Hleb and Ben Arfa on loan deals too.

Masch money is a bit shlte. I hope he breaks his bucked teeth in Spain.

Not seen much of Poulsen nor anything from the other new midfielder???

reading quotes from players "we went after" saying they chose not to move to Liverpool summed it all up for me.

we have become a bit of a laughing stock when even 2nd and 3rd rate players are choosing Birmingham and Sunderland before us.

BTW, running round like a headless chicken in the last 48 hours of the transfer window is not the best way to go Roy!

What players are you talking about? I presume Hleb is one but if you read his actual quotes he says there was no offer from Liverpool. Who went to Sunderland that we were in for?

It's Purslow who does the deals, not RH.

Blame that c*** instead
