"I kept in touch with (Managing Director) Christian Purslow throughout the summer and to be fair he has backed up his words with actions.

Not sure what CP has done, anyone got any ideas?

I can't remember Gerrard sounding so positive in a long time.

I know he has said a lot of strange things, but I really do think that CP is doing a good job and that he could be brilliant if we get decent owners. A lot of our players have mentioned him in very positive ways this summer.

Who and when?

Stevie, Cole, I believe Roy has been quite happy with him, think it was someone more as well but cant remember (could have been Torres?).

Nothing over the top but at least he seems to understand that he needs to communicate with people, which is a step up from Parry..

“All we ever seem to do at Liverpool is have discussions,” he said. “So I am pretty sure those discussions have taken place.”

What did Cole say about him? I just remember him saying he texted him when he made his decision.

What is it that has impressed you? The profit we've made in the transfer market?

“I set myself a deadline to make a decision and when I made it I sent a text to Christian Purslow and Steven Gerrard and then turned my phone off." - Joe Cole

Purslow has a mobile phone. Impressive. That's me convinced.

and hodgson was referring to the press.

Mindful of the anticipated problems of the tie, Hodgson intimated at the weekend that Liverpool's board had to decide on whether the Europa League placed in their list of priorities for the forthcoming campaign.

And when asked if such talks had taken place, the manager replied cryptically: “All we ever seem to do at this club is have discussions, so I'm pretty sure those discussions have taken place.”

Doesn't appear to be a misquote and not sure how he is referring to the press? Obviously missed something here.

Angel or Devil, probably neither.

He's played a few people and the fans at least once, he's made a big decision many wont ever be convinced he had a right to make. Many of the predictions of subsequent intentional doom have been unfounded. I dont know exactly what financial constraints he's running the club on, history may tell us that, but it's fairly clear he's not the root cause of it, even if it's unclear who's interest he's serving.

8.30 til 9.00 sportsweek.

..and i have to admit he's gone up in my estimation recently - his job seems to be what Parry's was and he seems to be doing it quite well given the constraints at the moment. He's growing into the role.

Going to take some conserted effort to win our respect though after his previous shenanigans.

Thanks for clearing that up.

So glad to pick up on the excellent inside info on here.

Otherwise I'd simply believe people like our manager mean what they say.

There's a different transcript of those quotes that give them a different slant. The version you quote seems to imply he's being critical of the club, the other version doesn't. I can't remember exactly what that said but the impression I got was that he was implying he'd had to do a lot of talking since he got the job, to people like Gerrard, Torres and Mascherano (about them staying or going) and that he'd like to be getting down to the serious business of football. It doesn't seem likely that he'd be getting publicly critical of his bosses so early in his tenure.

It definitely came across as a mild dig at the press, who he was suggesting are always reporting Liverpool to be "in discussions" of one kind or another. He was letting them know he found questions about whether we "were in talks" were getting a little tedious, and that if you believe what was read in the papers, he'd spend most of his day talking rather than coaching etc.

Excellent summary that.

People are to eager to blame him for everything forgetting who his bosses are and therefore the constraints he's working under.

As for the big decision i.e. Rafa. Who else was supposed to make that decision if not Purslow or Broughton? It had to be made one way or the other, and the players, including Carra and Gerrard and seemingly Torres ALL support it - Carra being the most recent to agree that it was the right time for a change, grateful to Rafa though he is..
