i suppose the threads are all full of how well people thought we played. well, i dont agree. i thought we were s****

only messing

cant give that high enough praise tonight. we were outstanding to a man from the first whistle to the last. we were missing 5 first team certs out there, and we could have scored 5 or 6. we battered them tonight, every player to man played for the shirt, the chased and harried and made themselves busy, they moved off the ball, they chased down the ball, they stuck the boot in. i havent enjoyed a game like that all season. it was proper football, and i loved every bit of it.

I thought Aquilani had his best game, although one minor point, i dont know if it was picked up on sky, but just before he was subbed he kicked one of the spurs players in our box in an off the ball incident. it was a nailed on pen, and the ref and lino both missed it.

so the moral of the story is, no matter how bad things get, we are still miles better than Spurs

The stream I watched it off defo picked up on the Aquilani kick on King I believe it was...

Also love how the Greek got away with the shirt pull on Crouch...

Considering our state of play, I thought we did very well.

Every defensive minded player won his battle out there 95% of the time.

Our attacking players were not involved enough - yet at the time they were, they did very well with some very neat touches.

All in all, I thought we were susceptible to a mistake and a goal at the back and Spurs pinned us back for longer than I would have liked.

However, I am delighted with the game, we took the first step and that is to FIGHT and then play ball when we can. We got the breaks here and there and we got the win.

Lets take it from there.

oooohhhh......you

The only annoyance for me was Lucas' inability yet again in the final third of the pitch. If we're playing 2 less offensive players, at least one has to be able to pick a pass.

I thought Lucas had his worst game in a while tbh. not that i'm bothered!

King left his foot in on Aquilani = free kick to us

Aquilani kicked out at him - not sure there was contact = maybe a yellow

no pen

Thats the nail on the head right there. A terrible game for lucas but one too many defensive midfielders.

Stevie in there when fit and leave Aqualad where he played tonight.

Sorted!!

For the late tackles on him etc i thought aqualani defo manned up as the game went on. Sign of a great player adapting hopefully. Him and the greek were man of the match for me. King certainly left his foot in.

Great to have the Just back from the match threads back up and running. Nice one Wayne.

i have to agree now all we need is wills pics and itll just be like old times

its good to see the players playing with a bit of passion ,something i think we have been missing

Great performance, Kuyt looked like a proper centre forward, Carra looked 10 year younger, Aqua got involved, Degen and The Greek had good games, Skrtel was up for it. Only one minor criticism, Masch is going to get more red cards before the end of the season if he keeps going in so late. Lucky only to get a Yellow tonight.

correct he was poor. i hope those who think he always is noticed the difference! :)

i have high hopes for this selection. hard to beat and creates a lot of chances.

although nobody did badly enough to be dropped. Gerrard in for Degen would be a crushing machine of sorts.

Aquilani should play in the centre of a 3 behind the striker every week, some great things to come from him there.

insua did well too, but either he or Aurelio there and we could go on a run with this.

phew!

Agree with almost everything in this thread, buy really have to reply to this...Kuyt despite his brace, for all his hustle and bustle was poor in my book tonight. he missed at least 3 clear-cut chances. Only problem last nite was that yet again we were not clinical enough in front of goal and we risked a stoke after missing all those opportunities. Otherwise the team played fantastically well.

I think we should be more grateful that Kuyt scored - hopefully the sign of a return to good form.

Excellent result. I knew it was the right thing to f*** the FA cup off.

Masch is going to have to calm it down a touch. Can't afford to lose him for too many games,

I sit near to Purslow and I thought it was very amusing and interesting to see him singing Rafa Rafael, Rafa Rafael, Rafael Benitez and clappinag along furiously with everyone else!!!!

Kuyt looked like a proper centre forward.

It was certainly his best display for months. Now that we have good options in attacking midfield (Gerrard, Benayoun, Riera, Aquilani, Rodriguez, Pacheco) and seem unlikely to bring in another striker, perhaps we'd be better off using Kuyt as cover for Torres up front.

I think as hard working as Kuyt is we need pace up front.

Granted but I think I'd rather have him up front than in midfield where too much of our play slows or breaks down entirely when the ball reaches him. If Torres is available, then he should be on the bench - to come on in the last 30 mins to create havoc in and around the opposition penalty area, as he did on his debut for us.
