Got injured 3 years ago while on England duty...

One of very few strikers I've actually seen just about outmuscle Sami (in the Cup Final) along with Niall Quinn. Not quick but has great technique, is excellent playing with his back to goal and a very good finisher also.

 

Real shame if he has to retire, at that age it'd be terrible. Think he was on the point of bigger and better things when he got injured, and would be first choice in the England team ahead of Heskey had he stayed fit.

A lovely guy too by all accounts. One of our Ste's mates used to knock around with him. Very down to earth fella. Shame stuff like this happens when c**** like drogba and cronaldo get to fanny about unhindered

I think so - playing right up top and holding the ball up with Rooney in behind him.

 

Think he would have been well suited to the slower pace of international football as well, and that his technique and ability to take the chances that come his way would have stood him in good stead.

When he was at Crewe he was always "on his way to Liverpool" it seemed!
