Back entry diddler Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 See that Chelsea may get Pirlo for 16M and just wonder why he wouldnt be a good option for us to replace Alonso if he goes ?
Jiggy Hates Jazz Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 No but thanks for starting a whole new thread to ask.....
_00_deathscar Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 No. He's not half as good as he used to be, aside from which, he is old and lightweight. He'd get eaten up by the yard dogs of the Premier League.
Beardsley Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 He's fantastic if given time - something he wouldn't get in the Prem. He'll be cack, so good news if Chelsea buy him.
Stevie H Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 don't see where they'd play him. he's no makelele and he's not as good as essien, lampard or ballack in the other midfield roles. be quite happy if chelsea do get him as he'd be as much of a white elephant as deco.
Hassony Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 don't see where they'd play him. he's no makelele and he's not as good as essien, lampard or ballack in the other midfield roles. be quite happy if chelsea do get him as he'd be as much of a white elephant as deco.He will play instead of john obi mikel
Stevie H Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 He will play instead of john obi mikelthat would weaken chelsea.
Ramón Benítez Hernández Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 (edited) No but thanks for starting a whole new thread to ask..... Two whole new threads. http://www.ynwa.tv/forum/index.php?showtopic=145533 Edited August 4, 2009 by B.A.Baracus
Frosty Jack Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 i also see his signing as an added vulnerability for them, i don't think it'll work
Rory Fitzgerald Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Roll back a couple of years and I'd see him as ideal to replace Alonso.
Stevie H Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 some players just aren't made for the speed of english football. he's one of them.
Hassony Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 that would weaken chelsea.I know, thats why i am hoping for the transfer to go through
Rory Fitzgerald Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 some players just aren't made for the speed of english football. he's one of them. Like Alonso and Hamann ?
Spike Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Like Alonso and Hamann ? can Pirlo crumple or stick his a*** into a turn?
Mike Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 not remotely similar. pirlo is a similar player to alonso to be fair.
Stevie H Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 pirlo is a similar player to alonso to be fair.don't think pirlo has the physicality or the defensive abilities of alonso. he'd need a minder in the english game. see him more like a veron really.
Swipe Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Don't think I've ever seen a footballer look as frightened as much as Pirlo did before he stepped up to miss that penalty against us in Istanbul
Stevie H Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Don't think I've ever seen a footballer look as frightened as much as Pirlo did before he stepped up to miss that penalty against us in Istanbulriquelme against arsenal was a good one. and paul ince for england in the world cup. guv'nor my a***.
CaptainXabi Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 riquelme against arsenal was a good one. and paul ince for england in the world cup. guv'nor my a***.Riquelme v. Arsenal is perhaps the textbook example of bottling a penalty. There was zero chance of him converting that.
Swipe Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Good shout with the Riquelme one, actually! He s*** himself
Rory Fitzgerald Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 not remotely similar. To be fair, the Alonso one is fairly similar. Perhaps not the Hamann one. I would still have taken him a few years ago, in a heartbeat.
Leo No.8 Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Wonderful footballer is Pirlo, just think he has been playing the game at a completely different tempo his whole career (a tempo which suits him) so I'd imagine it would be incredibly hard for him to adapt at this age. I only thought Alonso truly mastered the pace of English football in this last season after five years here, and he joined relatively young (which is why its so galling that he's choosing to leave now). Another question is why would he choose us over Chelsea when they'd probably offer more money, allow him to live in London and he'd be playing for his old boss whom he has a good relationship with in Ancelotti? Great player, but any suggestion of him coming here is a total non starter.

Xabi's second season can be argued as being better than last.
