Molby Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 I'm not going to go off on one here or jump to conclusions or start blaming anyone BUT if you were Rafa/the players and staff/a suporter of LFC, would you want your captain a)in the TV studio? or b)would you want him in the dressing room and then on the bench to lend crucial support to the team for a must-win game at the climax of the season?
Bailo Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 I thought it was a little odd, but he handled himself well. Thing is, he never seems comfortable in front of the camera, so why put yourself there?
Stevie H Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 thought that was f***ing bizarre. and am amazed the manager sanctioned it.
smithdown Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 On the plus side, Keys was fawning all over him. If he hadn't been there he'd have been beside himself with feckin joy.
Paddy 66 Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 He must have been given permission by the club to have done that, never seen him sit on the bench when he has been injured before.
Tosh Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 (edited) The question that's been bugging me is whose wedding he'd just come from Edited April 22, 2009 by Tosh
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 The question that's been bugging me is whose wedding he'd just come fromHAHA We were saying exactly the same in the pub. Reckon his missus dressed him
Roscoe Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 on a night when there was every possibility that his first real chance of winning the league would go up in smoke it was an odd place to choose to be . why expose yourself to that?
johngibo YPC Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Injured players don't tend to be on the bench do they? In the stand normally. And i don't see what difference it makes him being in the stand and him being in a studio
smithdown Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 You'd think it was his groin that was injured the way he was sitting. Could see all his tea and sugar.
MFletcher Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 I didn't see the problem with it. I thought he handled himself well. It's not as if it affected the performance either. Gerrard in the dressing room or Gerrard in the studio, he can't stop Mascherano, Arbeloa and Aurelio from passing to the other side.
Molby Posted April 22, 2009 Author Posted April 22, 2009 Injured players don't tend to be on the bench do they? In the stand normally. And i don't see what difference it makes him being in the stand and him being in a studio I know but 'bench' can also mean near the bench just wondering though - he's part of the fabric of the club and he's desperate for us to stay in the title hunt and yet he parades himself in front of the viewers when he could have been lending support to the team instead not judging him but I really found it odd from every angle
Dan Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 The first thing that i thought of when i saw him there was how on earth is he going to handle himself in the studio if we lose. He did well though. It felt like a loss last night but to be honest hearing him speak after the game gave me a tiny glimmer of hope after feeling absolutely desperate at the final whistle.
Swipe Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Makes no difference where he was. He spoke well. Could see he was gutted after the match but kept saying it wasn't over and the point could be crucial depending on what United do. Didn't see the build up but was funny watching Keys and Redknapp fawn all over him
Dan Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 To be fair to Redknapp (who has clearly shifted his stance after his early criticisms of us) he looked more gutted than Gerrard after the game.
Chili Palmer Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 To be fair to Redknapp (who has clearly shifted his stance after his early criticisms of us) he looked more gutted than Gerrard after the game. He was only nice about us because it was infront of Stevie. And if Stevie is not fit to play I couldn't give a s*** where he watches the match from.
Tones Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Not really bothered. Not much difference between being there and in the stands.
Jarg Armani Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Sky Haiku #1 Spreadeagled on telly Geggsy and Redknapp agleam Alan Smith squashed, teeters.
Bailo Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Spreading his legs like a dirty slapper. You'd think Sky would get them either better chairs or a bigger table to sit round. It's ridiculous seeing them struggle to sit up in those chairs and must be uncomfortable having their meat and two veg squashed in like that.
mick Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 I can never understand why any current player would do this. Didn't Carra do it recently enough aswell? they are not doing it for the money because they don't need it! I find it very strange that any top player eanring thousands a week would subject themsevles to this bullsh!t.

Ronnie Whelan Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Didnt see anything wrong with it to be honest. As others have said, he spoke well and handled himself with dignity at the end of the match when must have been absoultly gutted.
mick Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 still don't get it but each to their own I suppose. The idea of enjoying some banter with the likes of Keyes, Gray, Lineker, McManaman, Sherwood just goes to prove how fuvking stupid footballers are.
David Hodgson Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 I don't want to criticise the man because he is a god, but, but....I can't relate to him wanting to be with Keys and co. on this occasion The potential impact of the result of this match was so enormous in terms of Steven Gerrard's career that I don't know how he could bare to be anywhere, but within the bosom of his brethren. When we're not at matches we've always got a choice as to where we watch the game. Do we choose a neutral pub full of partially interested strangers, or do we prefer the company of mates who also support the same team ?
