32 goals in 47 league appearances for us so far (11 as sub).

8 goals in 14 league appearances for us this season (4 as sub).

If he stays fit, we really have a chance. Still only lost one game in the league too.

32 goals in 36 starts in the league?

I thought his goals/starts ratio must be good, but I didn't realise it was quite so impressive.

According to the BBC. And 8 in 10 starts this season.

Rush played in a better side and i've never seen anyone like him for being in the right place at the right time. Good close control but not as skillful as Torres.

Rush was probably the best there's ever been at harassing defenders. Back passes were allowed back then so he'd position himself between keeper and defender and chase the defender down, who'd misplace his pass and our attack would start.

I've all the respect for Owen as a player and a finisher but Torres is better and more like the Fowler of 94-96. Fowler's career was shorter than it should have been. Hopefully Torres will be here for another decade.

I think Rush got a lot more chances and missed very few, due to our continuing domination at the time. Both pacey, decent in the air and Rush was a better footballer than people give him credit for. His channel-running was ahead of its time.

Torres looks a bit special in the air and has a good deal of strength in him. Torres has a bit to go but he's capable of getting there, I feel.

Remember what Craig Burley says though. We need to play him every game whilst also wrapping him in cotton wool

That's going to interfere somewhat with his technique.

I never saw Rush at his best, I know it's early days for him, but how does Torres compare?

I know which one I'd like to bum more!

I was privileged to witness Rushie's career from start to finish, and uncanny goal instinct as he had, he wasn't as good as Torres. Technically Torres is better on every level. He scores goals that are entirely his own work, whereas Rushie (superbly) exploited the openings created for him by others.

However, before we re-write the legends hierachy, I think Nando has to do it for a for more seasons yet.

He could have the impact Henry had at Arsenal, without the attitude and pouting...........

I think his attitude is a fresh of breath air, despite his obvious talent, good looks and fame, he seems like a down to earth guy who loves his football and never stop working hard

So glad that he is playing for us than anyone else in the league, as he is a proper liverpool player

Totally agree... If he stays fit and plays to his potential he will be the best striker we have ever had....

Was explaining that to my girlfriend - that's why Torres is dreamy and Ronaldo is a c**k.

Their talent is comparable but their attitudes and demeanour's certainly are not.

Rush's speciality was the run along the line and break through just as the ball was played, staying onside. He was a ntural goalscorer, but never let that disguise his skill levels - as ever, the benchmark is that 2nd half Hat-trick at Villa Park on an ice rink, one of the best individual goal-scoring performances I've ever witnessed.

As for 'defending from the front', he must have been a nightmare to play against. Ask Terry Butcher, and specifically why he got his name chanted by the Kop one evening....

Deffo cut from the same cloth in that they have the good sense to barely even notice the fella stood in the opposition's goal and when they do they think "ffs, he's only a goalie" and just belt it past him. It's all in the mentality, Torres has better technique but Rushie's attitude to goalscoring was second to none, ie goalies are divvies and have no right to stop anything.

Think that is a little harsh on Rush because he created lots of chances by how he played the game. He didnt have the natural explosive skill of Torres but his defending from the front changed the role of the centre forward and created a lot of chances for us which he put away.

Very much agree with your general point though.

It is a hell of a claim, but he's a hell of a player. Definitely the most talented Liverpool striker I've see live, i.e more talented than Robbie. The lad is immense.
