Fowler - insatiable

Owen - unstoppable

Torres - beautiful.

His goal today would have made Pele proud. What a fecking player. He's everything Collymore could have aspired to be had his head been right

how soon we forget all those times owen was playing through a goal drought

My opinion only and I'm sure most will disagree, but Torres and Robbie are/were different class to Owen. Torres has past Owens best goal tally in his first season, with 9 games to go.

If Robbies attitude off the pitch matched his natural ability he could have been the best player this country has ever produced. Oh, that hat trick, now that was a thing of beauty.

Torres is already up their in my eyes with Rushie and Kenny, not just because of his goals and ability, but because of his attitude and respect for the club and the fans.

I know it's easy to say now that Torres is in such a rich vein of form but although I hold great memories watching Owen, Torres just fills me with more excitement.

I think someone in the press said that he never scores the same goal twice. Compare him with Owen and he just has that little bit more variety to his game. It got towards the end of Owen's time at Liverpool and it got stale, perhaps because of Houllier, perhaps because Owen's game lacked the guile that his pace offset.

I'm glad that I had the chance to see Fowler and Owen play for us. They both had such ability. Fowler's finishing was unsurpassed. Owen was electric when fit and on form. Torres has both and is strong as an ox.

I think somewhere between Keegan and Houllier, Owen had his imagination and joy of running at defenders coached out of him. It was what made him special, but it was traded in for functional percentage play, and with the consistent injuries he's become a player who just hasn't seemed to enjoy his football in years.

I don't think I agree that it was coached out of him. I don't think his body was able to cope with it so he had to change his game. He still has the instinct to get into the right areas but without the pace he hasn't got the ability to force defenders onto the back foot. Saying that, I think he was a success at Madrid. He made a poor choice in going to Newcastle.

I don't think it was the coaching, it was the injuries.

He was visibly afraid to use his pace, once his hamstrings went the second time.

I don't blame him, he wanted to have a long career and he tried to develop the other parts of his game to compensate.

His record for Real Madrid in terms of how much he played was very impressive, a couple more injuries down the line and being in a joke of a team, have obviously taken it out of him, sad to see, though he's been scoring recently, and still has a future for england.

I still think if he came back to us on on the cheap he could do a job though, it might be the only club that would revitalize him, but there are better options, and sentimentality shouldn't come into it.

I'm not sure you can say for sure that it was sentimentality. It may have appeared that way to us...

Owen is a very good finisher but a huge part of his game was his pace, watching him play now its easy to forget how quick he was but technically i think Torres is a different level to Owen. He makes chances for himself, is big and strong and as we saw today he can make chances for others too. Owen after the hamstring injury was never the same player although hes still a good player and in a good team he will score goals.

Fowler in his prime was just a freak.

I remember those moments after he busted himself. Damn s**** because he should have been much better. Didn't really notice him today...

Fowler's finishing was frightening and in his prime had a bit of pace as well

Owen's pace was his biggest asset - his finishing was superb as well though

Torres is top class in both areas though - pace and clinical finishing coupled with strength and flair. The potential is there to surpass both.

I can see Owen packing in if he gets another bad knock, I think it's only the money that keeps him going now he has his racing yard at Malpas.

I agree, I think all that ambition has been drained out of him.

pity, he was brilliant at his peak.

Owen was incredible during the treble season, easily his peak with us.

However once his pace went, starting with that hamstring at Leeds, and carrying on over the seasons Owen stopped bieng a player who could make a goal for himself and became a player who scored chances. He did this very well of course when he was on form, but he became more reliant on the players around him as his body wasn't able to make up the shortfall.

Now he's at a club where there isn't anyone with any talent to help make those chances for him. He's isolated up top and doesn't have the fitness or the pace to terrify defenders like he used to.

his hamstring going at leeds was before the treble season. the treble season wasn't his peak.
