Dont know if this has arisen in another thread but as where playing 7 days after the other ties, anyone know

when the draw takes place? After the 5th of March or after our game?

Posted

14th March is the draw, 3 days after our match.

I'm delighted that its on after our game. I couldnt stand the thought of being drawn against someone like Schalke, Olympiacos, Porto, Celtic ;) (depending on who got through) and fans going on about how we are gonna get to the semi finals before we have even played Inter.

Are you sure you can draw other teams from the same country in the quarter final ? you could not last season until the semi final, have they changed the rules for this season

They haven't changed the rules, country protection has always been removed at the Quarter Final stage.

It's an open draw - from Article 6 of the competition rules document:

First knockout round

6.07 The first knock-out round pairings are determined by means of a draw. The

first knockout round is played under the cup (knock-out) system, on a homeand-

away basis (two legs). The UEFA administration ensures that the

following principles are respected.

a) Clubs from the same association must not be drawn against each other.

b) The winners and runners-up of the same group must not be drawn

against each other.

c) The group-winners must not be drawn against each other.

d) The runners-up must not be drawn against each other.

e) The runners-up must play the first leg at home.

6.08 The team which scores the greater aggregate of goals in the two matches

qualifies for the quarter-finals. Otherwise, the stipulations of Article 7 apply.

Quarter-finals

6.09 The eight winners of the first knockout round contest the quarter-finals. The

quarter-final pairings are determined by means of a draw. The quarter-finals

are played under the cup (knock-out) system, on a home-and-away basis

(two legs). The team which scores the greater aggregate of goals in the two

matches qualifies for the semi-finals. Otherwise, the stipulations of Article 7

apply.

Semi-finals

6.10 The four winners of the quarter-finals contest the semi-finals. The semi-final

pairings are determined by means of a draw. The semi-finals are played

under the cup (knock-out) system, on a home-and-away basis (two legs).

The team which scores the greater aggregate of goals in the two matches

qualifies for the final. Otherwise, the stipulations of Article 7 apply.

Final

6.11 The final is played as one single match at a neutral venue. If the result

stands as a draw at the end of normal playing time, extra time of two periods

of 15 minutes shall be played. If one of the teams scores more goals than the

other during extra time, that team shall be declared the winners. If the two

teams are still equal after extra time, the winners shall be determined by

kicks from the penalty mark (Article 16). The provisions of Article 7 do not

apply to the final.

Chelsea played Arsenal in the quarters back in 2004

I thought we where kept apart, probably because of us, Utd and Chelsea all being in last years semi finals, which appears to be down to the luck of the draw rather than any rules

We're due another two matches against Chelsea to fulfill our annual quota (since Rafa joined) of 5 matches a season against that lot, so if we do go as far as the semis, I'd bet on us playing them in the quarters or semis...
