psl Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 What a great goal! Very promising start for the lad this year.
MFletcher Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 I've been very impressed with him this year. I think he's going to a fantastic player for us.
Guest Snorky Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 I've been very impressed with him this year. I think he's going to a fantastic player for us. Seconded.
psl Posted January 26, 2008 Author Posted January 26, 2008 Needs to demand the ball more. Should come with time I reckon. Needs to become more confident in the team.
stressederic Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 He looks a proper player. I'm still pretty pissed off that Neville stuck his hand out to stop his shot at Goodison, as he deserved a goal in that game as well.
Guest spk Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 +aye he was mint today. that goal would have beaten most keepers imo. id like to see him have a dig more often.
floyd the barber Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 gerrard---alonso/lucas--masch----- is the way forward....only wish rafa would do it, and gerrard would get over his c-mid fixation...
Berger Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 I think he formed a good partnership with Stevie too, deserves more starts.
Swipe Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 I think he formed a good partnership with Stevie too, deserves more starts. Yeah think there's potential with that partnership
surf Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 gerrard---alonso/lucas--masch----- is the way forward....only wish rafa would do it, and gerrard would get over his c-mid fixation... It would leave us needing one wide player instead of two, certainly a useful idea.
Guest WesthamRed Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 I like him. He has the vision and awareness, and can also get about the pitch. Just hope he gets enough games, which isn't easy with three players ahead of him. Brings me back to my feeling that Xabi might be sold in the summer.
CaptainXabi Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 It would leave us needing one wide player instead of two, certainly a useful idea.I agree. Get an attacking fullback like Alves behind Gerrard on the right and that partnership would be deadly. Let Stevie do what he wants and have the fullback provide the width. Masch will cover the holes. As for Lucas he's quality. I know it was just a semi-pro team yesterday, but he really started showing the confidence to play the Xabi-esque long ball and he was finding Babel over and over and over again. He needs minutes but I think he's potentially exactly what we need in midfield to partner Masch and that is a player who's style is right between Xabi and Stevie.

Exactly right. I think deep down Rafa would love Stevie on the right and Lucas/Xabi in the middle to dicate the game.
honourablegeorge Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 "It was a special moment for me because I became the first Brazilian to score for Liverpool so I'm really, really happy. http://icliverpool.icnetwork.co.uk/0500liv...-name_page.html Aurelio's scored one for us, hasn't he?
Rich Gobey Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 http://icliverpool.icnetwork.co.uk/0500liv...-name_page.htmlAurelio's scored one for us, hasn't he? nope. Johnaldo scored loads though...
Frosty Jack Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 I see the americans didn't hire a new translator.
fyds Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 My daughter Katja (she's 8) spotted Lucas straight away and insisted getting his name on her shirt for this year 'he's going to be great for us Dad'. Knows her stuff that one! He is a very, very shrewd buy.
Stevie H Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 i just hope he gets the games to show what he's got. he's clearly really talented and has a good work ethic, but he needs games.

Next year he'll get some more still - his form has been good enough to get him back in the Brazil senior squad. Of course, if Wenger had signed him, the papers would be full of it - what a fantastic buy for £6m! etc... Edited January 28, 2008 by fyds

fyds Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 £6m isn't chicken feed. i just have a feeling that we'll sell someone in the summer and it could be xabi.In terms of transfers thesedays, £6m is pretty close to chickenfeed. Momo, who has nothing like the range of skills Lucas has already is going for aroundf £10m - and even that is not all THAT expensive thesedays. £6m tends to be the amount your average english player capable of more than a toe-ender goes for. We don't need to offload a midfielder in the summer as Momo's going - unless they want to go, or we pull in someone new.

Hopefully Lucas can keep the upward curve going as a player and put severe pressure on all and manager.
Molby Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 It would leave us needing one wide player instead of two, certainly a useful idea. or Masch and Alonso deep, with Lucas and Gerrard ahead of them - a narrow midfield, aided by the cavalier world class overlapping full backs we'll sign one day - a la Brazil 94 nice to write a tactical post was a time when 80% of my posts were in this vein; now it's more like 5%ffs
fyds Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 Still - that was one reasonably worth waiting for! Not a bad suggestion in many ways - whether the width it would give us would be enough...depends who the full backs are, and how fit they are too.
