D.Boon Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 Excellent 90 mins from him today, very tidy and i dont think he gave the ball away once. Interesting that he was the deepest of our midfiled 3. As an aside Babbel is going to be a great signing

Chili Palmer Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 He'll learn alot about that position watching Masch play and train, Momo should play behind closed doors...

Interesting that he was the deepest of our midfiled 3. As an aside Babbel is going to be a great signingTwice or three times, but that was it. Great to see him get the full game. The boy is a playa. The 'deep' thing is a good observation; he was Alonso-like in moving the ball from the back.
Swipe Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 Lucas was great today. Won the ball so many times from an admittedly s*** team, and kept things simple.

The 'deep' thing is a good observation; he was Alonso-like in moving the ball from the back. Was a similar game to how Masch plays but minus the eye catching tackles. Shame Momo doesnt have the same calm assurance on the ball. Some of his play today was painful to watch
McBain Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 He played well but needs to take more risks in his passing. That should come with games and confidence. Momo bad
Earl Hafler Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 Was a similar game to how Masch plays but minus the eye catching tackles. Shame Momo doesnt have the same calm assurance on the ball. Some of his play today was painful to watch The pass down the line to Torres was something Traore would have been proud of.
Guest Sabre Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 Momo at times was rubbish with the ball at his feet, first half especially, but he calmed down a bit second half and was ok and nothing more. Some of his tackling back was ace though
Hassony Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 The pass down the line to Torres was something Traore would have been proud of. traore was better with the ball than momo, you don't see momo doing any zidane turns
MFletcher Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 Momo broke up play tremendously well today. Some real crunching tackles. His problem is what to do when he gets the ball. He made some shocking passes today, but that can't overshadow the excellence of his defensive play today.

Everything he does is to be criticised and ridiculed. I agree with you though. I thought he improved as the game went on. When he keeps it simple he's very effective.
baja the hut Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 (edited) He is more like alonso than masch, will be cover for him i think. I think that he can fit into a 3 with Alonso, Gerrard as well, both he and Mascherano are adaptable. Momo needs to have a passer with him, he can't do a bit of both, so it's a good thing for us that all the attacks started from Lucas who plays as sort of a Libero. Flight Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 You must understand that when Riise isn't playing, Momo is the forum scapegoat. Everything he does is to be criticised and ridiculed. What about when he tackled himself and put the ball out of play, just past the half way line, with no Newcastle player within ten yards of him ? Lucas was outstanding today. We didn't miss Xabi, Stevie or Masch in the centre of midfield or protecting the back. Can't be a bigger compliment than that.
CaptainXabi Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 I like the way that Lucas looks like he's having a stroll in the park right in the heat of a match.
lfc003 Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 1st half Momo was terrible but once the game was over and we were popping the ball about you could see the relaxed and simple nature of our play helped him and his confidence and composure grew as the game went on.
Coyler Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 I like the way that Lucas looks like he's having a stroll in the park right in the heat of a match. He;s just a proper player. Brazilian player of the year, for flip's sake.
Oli Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 (edited) I thought Lucas was excellent, very reminiscent of Alonso when he plays well. Babel has looked impressive more often than not and I'd imagine how he's being used at the moment (as an impact sub with the occasional start) is how he'll be used for the rest of the season and it makes sense. Good to see Kewell starting and encouraging to see how commanding Sami was throughout considering how tired he must surely be by now, this season. Edited November 24, 2007 by Oli
Cooldude Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 He started so many of our moves Admittedly he was given the whole bloody park to do whatever he wants because no Barcodes decided to go anywhere near him. He still did it well though
Benitez Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 so very good today. Quietly efficient in every part of the game. Very mature display.
jimmylibel Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 Thought his battling was excellent and put in some really good challenges. Most of his passing was fantastic but there were a few times that I thought he was taking too long to pass it about and a few others where he didn't make his mind up and played it between players.
abc Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 His winning of the ball, and then picking out the right pass, be it short or medium range into the feet of the correct teammate was a joy to watch. Quality player.
Rimbeux Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 for a first premiership start he was excellent, for a Liverpool midfielder he was pretty good. Good attitude, positionally pretty much spot on, moved it well, kept it simple and quick, decent in the tackle more in the locker for when he's really arrived it seems. Momo was Momo, good and bad in the areaqs you expect, finished very strongly.
Stevie H Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 excellent debut, considering the location, time of year etc, all those cliches usually levelled at south american players. looks a smashing player who will get better and better and was really effective today.
stressederic Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 Lucas was terrific today. So calm and composed on the ball, and it meant Gerrard could wander around as much as he liked. Helped that Newcastle are utter w*** as well.
