Fernando Torres has suffered an injury in training which will rule him out of Spain’s Euro 2008 qualifier against Denmark, as well as Liverpool’s Merseyside derby clash against Everton.

 

Torres sustained a leg injury in Friday’s training session in Aarhus, where Spain are preparing for Saturday’s Group F qualifier.

 

Spain doctor Genaro Borras confirmed Torres’s muscle strain will require a minimum of 10 days’ rest which would also rule the player out of his national team's subsequent match, a friendly against Finland on Wednesday.

 

Reds boss Rafa Benitez will be concerned at news of Torres’s setback, with the Spaniard sidelined too for Saturday week’s Merseyside derby at Everton.

 

Torres’s injury means Spain coach Luis Aragones will have to do without both of his first-choice strikers against the Danes.

 

Valencia frontman David Villa has already been ruled out and, coupled with Torres’s misfortune, it means a likely start for Espanyol’s Raul Tamudo.

Torres out, Voronin in Ukraine Wednesday night, Kuyt injured, Gerrard will play 90mins in Russia Wednesday night, Mascherano in Venezuela midweek, Alonso either unfit or injured, Agger either unfit or injured, Hyypia will be playing two 90min games. The Derby is going to be a massive ask but hopefully we can scrape a win against the pondlife of the City.
