In Crouch, we've also got arguably the best English striker around - and he can't get a game either!

If Carson is the best English keeper around the state of English keepers is even worse than I ever imagined, I think he is hyped up to the extreme and I have never been impressed, more the opposite to be honest and this goes back to the day he got his debut for us and the following matches, he has never filled me with confidence at all.

This was my judgement after his first three matches back in 2005.

I have now seen Carson in 3 matches, in two of them he has cost us a vital goal, and in the Bolton match he was less than convincing at times!!

In between has has done a terrible error for England U-21 that cost them a goal as well, he might be talented but there is a lot of improving to do.

I still think his positioning is poor and he does not command his box at all, he is the kind of keeper that makes easy saves look good because he has to do Hollywood saves because of poor positioning.

Thank God we have got Reina, why we did not cash in on Carson this summer is beyond my understanding.

Think Carson is over rated myself, in that all goalies playimg regularly at relegation threatened teams are.

Maybe over rated is harsh. He certainly has a fair bit to prove still.

This season he may have been worth 6m, if he has a good season at villa he'll prob be more like 9m and no doubt there's a few team that would probably pay that. However I think we should keep him for now but I don't think he's anywhere near as good as Reina though but then again I suspect only 2 or 3 are.

can anyone tell me why theres suddenly this culture of ragging on kaiser for offering an opinion and then backing it up with at least a form of evidence? jesus, you 'best supporters in the world' are acting like f***ing c**** of late

way I see it, does another season at a bigger club, gets into the england team, does well in the summer, we sell a keeper for a lot of money, and keep another.

makes a mockery of the rules though. the scum had foster, vds, howard last season, we got reina, carson, chelsea got cech and cudicini, even newcastle got a decent cover keeper.

Player of the season for Charlton last year. Started well for Villa this season. Yep, agree with Kaizer.

And I certainly haven't seen Carson make many "Hollywood saves" either. I think you're mistaking him with Paul Robinson.

Just a thought - but I think people get fed up when someone that spends their days slagging off our players over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. It kinds gets tedious yer know. Maybe the 'best supporters in the world' (which is a load of old bollorks anyway), get a bit tired of having their players and manager slagged by some arrogant little so and so, I dunno, as I said - just a thought.

So do you rate him, or what ....??

I think he's got a long way to go, a lot to learn, and has been elevated because of the lack of English keepers, so yeh I think Kaizer is somewhere near the money here!

For me it's having been to Charlton a bit last season, and seen a few other 90 mins, and the general way keepers are rated by the media. Scott still has to figure out if he's a keeper that comes to claim the ball, and lets his defence sit right on top of him. He also lets far too many goals in through quite central areas of the goal and from distance, shots he's either mishandling or in a bad position to begin with. However, because he regularly had 10-15 saves to make a game, and the side was poor in many areas, the crowd were with him and forgave the odd blunder and just praised the saves, sort of 9 out of 10 saves pretty good attitude.

Kasper Schmeichel is another example for this season. I saw the 90 mins v Arsenal, and penalty save aside, he was ropey in the exreme with no real idea of what to do with crosses or through balls, no communication with the defence, getting away with many misjudgements through a combination of luck and scrambling from the defence, similar to the Manchester derby, yet he's subject to pieces about him opting for England.

Both guys are very young, especially for keepers, and I'm not sure the attention is helping, the emphasis on the MOTD highlights package and who gets praised as a keeper and what for. They iodeally need to be left alone to learn for some time, they have very long careers which will be better if they sort out their game before they get pushed to high up.

Robinson for example was given a massive long deal by Spurs after a good first season and chat about Man U, and it seems to have told him that he's sorted, he's got there, it's all in place, whilst he still had flaws in his game (and his condition) that need work, and are now consistently biting him on the a***.

No he doesn't, Carsons only half a player, until he has more shots on target / scores more goals, he'll never be a complete player.
