San Diego Red Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Considering Pennant's superb form as of late, and the fact that Beckham is out and Lennon is a snapped twig, I really hope Steve Mc:clown: gives him a call up. He deserves it. It'd give him a hell of a lot of confidence as well. Let's hope the Ginger Sven comes to terms with himself.
hideNseek Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 All Liverpool players should be banned from International duty.

Rory Fitzgerald Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 He is has come on leaps and bounds since he arrived. I remember the game against Haifa at home last season. It was the first game at Anfield and Pennant threw dummy early on - the defender bought it, Pennant went by him and there was a rapturous round of applause and left us all thinking, this guy can be a player for us. From then I thought there was an element of doubt in his mind that almost acted like a millstone around his neck. He never seemed to kick on and drive at players but rather worryingly crossed early, laid it off or lost the ball. But since those early months he improved immensely IMHO, he yearns for the ball so that he can drive on. He also has the comfort of Steve Finnan - a player that offers alot by getting up and supporting him and also the benefit of a good defender to help cover him. For me he is now a regular and despite Benayoun's very impressive performance the other night I would stick with Pennant until Yossi earns his spot on merit (if, rather than when). And thankfully for all, Rafa now has the right covered. No longer is Gerrard needed to prop up our right side, he can take his rightful berth in the center of the pitch and drive the team - and should buy his mate Jermaine a nice cool fruit smoothy for consistently making Rafa pick him on the right instead of him.
Guest Snorky Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Bentley of Blackburn will get the call ahead of Pennant.
Benitez Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 he should be in the squad, ahead of the likes of Bentley, but he probably won't be. There has been no championing of the cause for Pennant.

Rimbeux Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 he should be in the squad, ahead of the likes of Bentley, but he probably won't be. There has been no championing of the cause for Pennant. Aye, not on the radar of anyone but maybe Henry Winter. Performed more consistently at a higher performance level on bigger stages than any of of the current alternatives. I suspect he's been written off as a bad egg with his pervious, almost obvious. Also I dont think I'm being paranoid if point out as I did during the last round of qualifiers last season, that SCS simply doesn't rate our English players, Gerrard aside. Carra was definately behind at least Terry, Ferdinand, King and Woodgate in his thinking. He has taken every opportunity since he took over to move Crouch aside, talking up Ashton big time before his injury, wanting to start Johnson with Rooney in last Autumn's qualifiers before he got injured, generally talking of him as someone 'who's not let England down' rather than talking of his quality or what he brings to the side, someone who has to be in the squad due to his record. At the same time there's been strange devotion to the average and part time like Downing, Richardson and Brown.
CarraLegend Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 He deserves to be in the squad but cant say i'll be pissed off if he has two weeks at Melwood instead.
bazz Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 If Pennant was playing for United, he would already have 5-10 caps Guaranteed
honourablegeorge Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 I think some of the superlatives thrown at Pennant are a bit much, but he's got to be better than Kieran Richardson.
The Hitman Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 I think he's always going to be an underrated player just because he doesn't come across as likeable. But I think he's a very good player on the right, one of our most comfortable players on the ball. When you consider England's inability to keep hold of the ball,in possession like the best international teams do,you'd have thought that would be something that a top coach would pick up on. That's why Rafa likes him,I reckon.
Puskas Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 No longer is Gerrard needed to prop up our right sidePennant on the right, Benayoun on the left... for me anyways.I'm convinced that Gerrard is secretly hankering to be back on the right wing. Well I don't know why I play here tonight,I got the feeling that something ain't right,I'm so scared in case I get caught upfield,And I'm wondering how we'll defensive(ly) shield,Yoss(i) to the left of me,Jermaine to the right, here I am,Stuck in the middle with you. Yes I'm stuck in the middle with you,And I'm wondering what it is I should do,I can't sit out on the wing any more,Man, this tactics s**** is a bore,Yoss to the left of me,Jermaine to the right, here I am,Here I am, stuck in the middle with you. Trying to make some sense of it all,But I can see that it makes no sense at all,Is it cool to go to sleep on the floor,'Cause I don't think that I can take anymoreYoss to the left of me,Jermaine to the right, here I am,Here I am, stuck in the middle with you.

Total genius. And to think your boss is probably paying you for that too, brilliant.
CarraLegend Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Bentley and Ashley Young in the squad no Pennant.
Stigger Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Gerrard in the squad, no Pennant. McClaren is a muppet.
CarraLegend Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Hahahah McClaren on SSN saying "we always win the big games". Yep that 2-0 defeat in Croatia and 0-0 draw in Israel were "great wins" Not to mention the friendlies that were meant to be huge occasions against Brazil and Germany.
Sion Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 I can take Mclaren not thinking Pennant is England quality, fair enough. But picking the likes of Bentley and Young ahead of him is just idiotic.

England's record in quarter finals is second to none.

He might as well be bullish - he's gonna get feckin slaughtered if we don't win.

Obviously but lieing is just pointless and makes him an even bigger laughing stock. He wasn't even asked directly anyway, he just added the comment in. He doesn't help himself.

Be good if Gerrard and others have next Summer off.
