Timescale for new signings...early or late summer...

obviously with our season going to the very last European game of the season..... ...it means that the focus is all on the Champions league from here on in...

 

with the profile of another European final, the cash in the bank etc how soon do you reckon it'll be before we'll be signing up players for next season....

 

I know that all of these transfers will be complicated and so on...but whereas before we've had brinkmanship and bartering up until the last day of the transfer window do you think things will be different this time...?

 

Ideally it'ld be great to have everyone in place for pre-season...does anyone think that'll happen?

Same as always I expect, you get some that can be/are done early and some take till near the end of the window for whatever reason.

Depends when we can book goalkeeping courses in the Carribean, once thats sorted then we can have the traditional mad scramble in the last few days before the window shuts.

The 1st priority is to re-sign our top players on new contracts. If anyone doesn't (Xabi for example) it will affect our buying policy.

 

I'm sure we will have made a few offers already on Rafa's top targets

I'd expect most of the signings to come mid-June to mid-July, with maybe one or two into August.

With Gilette stating that he's been mightily impressed by Rafa as a 'savvy businessman who knows what he wants and how to get it' I suspect things may already be in the pipeline

think it matters to give rafa the optimum time to plan for the new season...Fergie has caught on that to win this league you need to get off to a flyer....5-6 years ago you could win it with 80 points and a strong second half of the season...now you need to be in the hunt at Nov or else you're chasing champions league positions...

 

rafa is pretty keen, it would seem, on conditioning players in the right way pre-season so that they are still fit and strong at thi stime of teh season...I'm sure he wants to get new players integrated in terms of tactics, surroundings, other players and fitness as soon as possible

 

also think it will be a real shot in the arm not to be sitting around on deadline day wondering if we might get a player or not....

Rafa has said before he likes to get who he wants in as soon as poss to give them an integrated pre-season. Given oir greater financial clout, we may expect that to mean at least a bit earlier than usual in most cases where selling clubs are not obviously taking the piss. I would not be surprised if, as in his frst summer, we see a couple of significant signings announced sharpish once the window is open....others may take longer to sort.

however, we will still get all the usual rubbish on here and in the press about rumors of who is coming in and dissatisfaction with the amount of time it takes to get signings made official.

 

in so many transfers there will be issues because of the involvement of the 2 clubs, the player and the agent.

 

everybody will know we have money to spend and will be holding out for high prices and we'll see players and agents holding out their hands for huge contracts.

I would like to have all our signings announced on July 1. Realistically, I expect us to follow our normal patterns and expect regular visits to the throne as we sign our key players on August 31 at 7pm, having sold the current incumbant inthe position in early July.
