Eric Abidal has his eye on a move to either Arsenal or Barcelona but does not want to go to Italy because of racism, according to his agent.

The French international defender is considering his future and has told his representative, David Venditelli, that he fancies England or Spain as his next destination.

Despite being under contract with Lyon until 2009, Abidal's buy-out clause is set at ?15million (£10.2million) and several clubs are thought to be preparing a summer bid, with Barca having expressed tentative interest.

"We have looked for teams in Italy, like Roma," the player's agent told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"But Eric does not want to go to Italy because he feels that there is too much racism in the game there.

"He would prefer to move to Spain or England.

"In his future, Barcelona are first choice and then Arsenal. Liverpool are also very keen, but Eric has other ideas."

Venditelli has revealed that the left-back was keen on a move to Serie A, but after allegedly being racially abused by Daniele De Rossi he has had second thoughts.

"De Rossi did apologise afterwards, but those insults have made Abidal change his ideas about going to Italy."

If we were, we won't be now.

Hardly a Rafa type player, doesn't exactly sound like he is desperate to play for LFC.

Well I just wondered if the quote could be slightly off... maybe the agent meant that he has 'other options'.

I'm probably clutching though ;)

cos Spain is hardly known for it's racist views. Arragones, anyone?

Not just him, it seems to permeate the whole game over there. I wonder if thats mirrored in Spanish society as a whole?

Ive never seen Abidal have a good game despite the hype. No ta.

Agree. Hyped up massively pre-World Cup, average all tournament positionally then gets himself stupidly suspended, f***ing up my Fantasy Team. w*****.

He's good, strong and athletic; but not £10m+ for a full-back good.

In all honesty I don't feel he really offers much Riise doesn't...

Lahm is the player we should go for.

Unless it's Alves, who is all three.

He's everywhere.

Sevilla fans all dream of a team of Dani Alves'...then find he does actually play in every single position during some games...

How are the other players Rafa publically chased doing, I wonder - the likes of Gabriel Milito, Pablo Ibanez, those fellas, I wonder? Simao? Are any of his near misses proving themselves as good as he thought they'd be? (quiet at the back there, Mr Neill)

"but he has other ideas"..... hmmm I don't think we are so poorly that we need to go after players who have other ideas... let this guy go to arsenal or barca and good luck to him. The fact that he doesn't want to go to the italian league because of something one player said to him.... doesn't say much for his intelligence if you ask me.

We need to go for Lahm in my mind. Best there is on the left.

fantastic player but he would cost an absolute fortune. Ive seen a small bit of alves this year, now that he's mentioned in this thread... anyway he looks bloody good too. he would of course cost an absolute fortune too...

meh!

Lahm looks too weak in the air to me.

Simao is the top scorer in portugal this season

Graham Hunter on talk Sport friday claimed barca have set their sights on signing Abidal, Alves and Roben in the summer.

I think we're going to regret not stumping up the extra couple of million Sevilla were asking for Alves last summer
