If Liverpool are going to truly take that step up and challenge for the title it is blindingly obvious that they need to get their hands in their pockets and go and buy a world class winger and striker and I mean top draw, the very best available.

We have everything in place, a great keeper and back four, brilliant centre of midfield and some good strikers, we need a bit of star dust up front and out wide now to finish it off. That is the difference in tight games, a bit of magic up front, a truly world class footballer, we have not had this since owen was in his prime winning games almost on his own.

Yes, we have gerrard, I know that, but we need another two. I am so hopefull that this summer we will finally spend the money required to give us a realistic chance of getting up there with chelsea and Utd.

All the foundations are there, we have never been able to build on this because normally we have not been able to spend £25 million on a player, but now we simply must invest, just like Barcelona did a few years ago when they decided to shake a team of underacheivers up with major investment in rohnaldhino etc.

Rafa has taken us as far as he can in the league, with the budget he had, he can not compete over 38 games with Utd and Chelsea whilst they can spend £20-30 million on players and we have tp spend £5-10 million. We have probably the best manager in the world and he has not been able to do it, in three years, without spending serious money on a couple of top class players.

We have to start to seriously compete now, this summer is the defining moment for the modern day Liverpool. Invest big in a couple of players or continue to drift along in 3rd or 4th, with the odd 2nd as well as the odd 5th. Make a statement of intent, go for your villa's or your kaka's. We have the best support cast out of all of the big four, but we dont have a henry, robben, rooney, ronaldo or dare I say drogba.

Give us a couple of truly world class stars and I think we will finally make a proper go of it

I agree completely - for me those two players are Eto'o and Alves.

Eto'o is obviously established as one of the world's best all-round strikers, and if you haven't seen him lately make a point of watching Alves, he's outrageously good; like two players at once.

Him in front of Finnan or behind Gerrard would be the best right side in football, I honestly believe that.

We have everything in place, it is testemant to our manager and our team that we can outplay barcelona and Man Utd without any of the very top creative players in world football

Can you imagine how good we would be if had Eto or Villa up front, even Owen of 6 years ago up front in this team. What about kaka in midfield, can you imagine if we didnt have to carry the likes of gonzalez in big games like this and instead had a truly world class player in that position.

We have been saying this for years, but it is so close now, lets hope the yanks get the cash card out and spend big, f'ck the squad players, spend big money on a couple

I don't think the top, established players look anywhere else other than London though in the Premiership. Personally I can see Lennon more than Alves and I'm stumped on a striker. I think if Eto'o is available, Arsenal and Chelsea are far more likely destinations.

For the first time in a while. Chelsea might not be the move for the top strikers - spending being cut down, Drogba on fire. Shevchenko the owner's pet, and talk of Crespo going back. I don't think they have room for Eto'o.

Arsenal, yes - but surely we're an equal draw?

When's the investment meant to be confirmed and finalised? 21 days after the press conference wasn't it? And if tomorrow against barca is the first game they are officially in charge, shouldn't there be something official announced today?

Arsenal will not be able to pay £25 million for anyone

Alves was brilliant again for sevilla against barcelona, I would love to see him, but I think we desperately need a left winger, more so than a right winger.

Eto or villa. Would be happy with either of them.

Imagine Eto'o, Alves and Ribery! That would be us sorted I think.

That would be my perfect summer...along with me winning the lottery as well.

Perfect!

-----------Reina

Alves---Carra--Agger--Aurileo

Gerrard--Alonso--Masch/Sissoko--Ribery

------------Kuyt

-----------------Eto'o

If that fecking team couldn't challenge for the league then I've no fecking indea what we'd need to do especially with the backup players we have like Riise, Kewell, Garcia, Bellamy, Crouch etc.

Is there something that makes you sure the big signings like this are really to happen, or is it just a piece of wishful thinking?

I mean was there any hint to make us discuss the Eto'o or Alves options as quite possible?

I'm not too bothered about big names, but I want to see the quality of the following players at Anfield next season

Queresima, Lennon, Ribery, Alves

Eto'o, Villa

If we can find that quality from 3rd div teams GREAT otherwise spend the money if we are serious about winning the league

as we are, we are cup team

I don't see much difference between the top 3 teams bar the individual excellence of a select few players for each of the teams. That's the difference for me.

Gerrard is our one world class match winner who can turn games on his own. When he's not on song we lack inspiration. Perhaps Garcia could be put in this bracket too.

Ronaldo and Rooney are a class above for ManU and the likes of Drogba Robben etc. do it for Chelsea.

Over all all 3 teams are really strong but in certain key areas we lack that one or two top class players that can be the difference between a win draw or loss.

Ronaldo V Fulham the other week is the perfect example of a class player rescueing a team from a draw.

Chelsea are full of such players and only one needs to show up per game to get them out of trouble.

Fully agree that we need 2-3 world class players this season rather than a load of mediocre players.

It remains to be seen whether we can get them though.

Eto'o, Alves and Ribery would be beyond my wildest dreams but I feel we have more chance of signing Georgie Best

It's as much sensible selection and good scouting as throwing money at it. How much was Kaka again?

think milan paid something like £4m for him.

Our work permit rules make it harder to bring in your Kaka's early on at reasonable prices though. Unless they happen to have moody passports.

I dont post here much but allow it im saying my piece.

We've been talking about 'last piece of the jigsaw' on these forums for years now....it aint happening my bredrens.

What we lack is genuine risk in the transfer market...and when we do we end up with Cisse and Diouf and Diao.

Would it really have killed us to offer slightly more for Alves last summer?

Everyone complains we dont spend 25m on a player, but think of those bogus 5/8/10/12m pound buys and if we invested that in genuine top quality players...we'd be alright.

Allow it, sIgN lEsS pLaYeRs FoR mOrE mOnEy

Ask yourself this, would Dr Dre be happy wid dis sheit maaan?
