Guest Kev Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Laughing and joking with Friedel at the final whistle. Just f*** off if you don't care.
allez les rouges Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 his current form is awful. he turns like the qe2 as well.
Guest Kev Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 his current form is awful. he turns like the qe2 as well. He's got no competition for the left-back slot as well.
alias75 Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 He's got no competition for the left-back slot as well. Think thats a big factor, he isnt good enough to have no pressure on his position in the first team, im sure thats why Neil is being targeted plus the young Argentinian, i think it was telling that Rafa said he thought he'd be pushing for the first team by the end of the season. Riise would always be in my squad because he covers a number of positions and does have attributes that are valuable in the PL but he shouldn't be guaranteed his position in the first team. His form isnt good and at the moment theres noone that can replace him. I also think the uncertainty at left wing hasn't helped, he gets a lot of stick and some of it is justified but Kewell knows how to play that position well and he certainly balances our midfield when he plays. Gonzalez i think will end up being a good player for us but if Kewell is finished id like another top quality left sided attacking player to be brought in and i think that would help Riise too.
owenthomas Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Laughing and joking with Friedel at the final whistle. Just f*** off if you don't care.seen him laughing with Pedersen.. pisses me off so much seeing players do that.. David James was the worst for it..
RafaShanks Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 He's got no competition for the left-back slot as well. He hasn't had any serious competition for as long as I can remember. Maybe Neill's (who's more than comfortable on the left) arrival will give him a kick up the a*** that he feckin needs.
DanielS Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Laughing and joking with Friedel at the final whistle. Just f*** off if you don't care. Agree entirely. He's been so sloppy and half-arsed this season it is like watching a different player. Even if he didn't have a good game in seasons past he did put the effort in - don't think he even raised a sweat yesterday.
lawrie Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Riise has had a series of indifferent spells for us, and ones that can run into months rather than weeks. If I remember rightly GH dropped him for quite some time at one point?
Paul B Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Riise has had bad spells in the past and for someone from a colder country than ours, it seems odd that it always occurs round this time of year. It's as if he doesn't like the cold. Maybe he suffers from SAD or something but he has in the past come through these poor spells to come good again once spring springs. I'd still back him but like others above, wish we had adequate cover for him.
Sion Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 (edited) I've been saying for a while he's not good enough, and most of the time got grief. He's an average defender, which shouldn't be over-looked just because he can score the odd thunderbolt. Sometimes he thinks he's bloody Roberto Carlos. Baines would walk into our team, I seriously hope we try hard to get him, because a defence of Alves Carra Agger Baines, would be awesome. Edited December 27, 2006 by Sion
Joxer Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Yea that seriously p*sses me off, fair enough when its a draw/win, but when youve lost or are losing its just pure betrayal, like they dont care.Im kickin chairs in the sittin room and there he is havin a little britain moment. He is havin a sh*t season
Bootle Buck Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 He's a very average player that scores 4/5 spectacular goals a season. They tend to cover his inadequacies. He has far too many games were he goes through the motions. Compare him to Heinze who is fully commited every game. Bring Leighton Baines in and give him some competition.
Red Lecter Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Riise's non-performances haves been pretty annoying for most of the season. Not defending him for one second here, but... how much of an effect is his divorce having on Riise at the moment... he's going through a bad patch off the field, isn't he? Look at how Bellamy's performances picked up once his court case was finished.
yellow jumper Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 you've never liked him though kev. hard to argue that riise's been anything but poor for a couple of months. but at least he's shown in past seasons that he can perform at a decent level in the premiership for liverpool. there are bigger question marks over other positions for me.
owenthomas Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Baines would walk into our team, I seriously hope we try hard to get him, because a defence of Alves Carra Agger Baines, would be awesome.due to festive merriment i'd missed that Pardew had gone to Charlton.. was there something else closer to home i'd missed too?!
Hassony Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 last season he was the best left back in the premiership
Swipe Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 last season he was the best left back in the premiership Better than Heinze and Cole? He was truly awful yesteray at Blackburn. Really dreadful.
shanks59 Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 last season he was the best left back in the premiership Lets be honest, at Anfield, he is rarely tested defensively, so his poor positioning and inability/aversion to tackling is not so evident. I can see him keeping his place at home (let's be fair, he is arguably the best attacking left back around). But, envisage Rafa keeping him on the bench (his flexibility make him a brilliant squad member) in tough games at home, and for most away games.
Hassony Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Better than Heinze and Cole? He was truly awful yesteray at Blackburn. Really dreadful.heinze and cole hardly played last season Lets be honest, at Anfield, he is rarely tested defensively, so his poor positioning and inability/aversion to tackling is not so evident. Benitez Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 why is lack of competition considered a factor of his poor form? Finnan has zero competition, but is one of our most consistant players. Maybe it's just come to the point where Riise is gonna get no better, he's no longer the young player who had time to improve. He just isn't that good defensively, never has been. He's a decent full back, but sadly, in the slump of his life!
Walrus Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 I bet hels smicer for one hasn't had enough of Riise yet.
hels smicer Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 I bet hels smicer for one hasn't had enough of Riise yet. i knew if i waited long enough i would get a mention

Cooger Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 (edited) Riise is not the problem. Yes he is off form and we know he can play better. Yes he needs some competition. He can play the ball long too often at times and he is very one footed. But Carragher has been off form at times this season, he is also someone who launches the ball long far too many times and he is very one footed. Every players has negatives. Hyypia is slow, Alonso can run around like a headless chicken at times, Gonzalez looks to be punching above his weight etc etc. I'm not defending Riise really, as he has been poor... but it should be said, he is not the problem! He wasn't too blame for yesterdays goal. He wasn't to blame for the missed chances. He will no doubt pick up some form sooner rather than later. I think he is a good player, yes there are better left backs in the league and Europe. But he is by far our best option we have in that position. Edited December 27, 2006 by Hydie
