Set to sign for a club in Hong Kong apparently

Former England winger Steve McManaman is set to sign for Hong Kong League First Division side Hong Kong Rangers, according to reports.

The South China Morning Post claims that the ex-Liverpool, Real Madrid and Manchester City star could join Rangers before the end of the year.

McManaman, 34, has been without a club since leaving City in the summer of 2005 and was thought to have retired.

He has been working as a TV commentator for ESPN Star in Asia during 2006.

McManaman has also been involved in the making of Goal! 2, the sequel to football film Goal! which tracks the progress of a fictional footballer who moves from Newcastle United to Real.

He earned 37 England caps during his playing days and won the Champions League twice in his time at the Bernabeu.

His stint with City was a disappointing one, however, with injuries and a loss of form meaning he made only 25 Premiership starts in two seasons at Eastlands.

Apparently he's over here just because he's mates with one of the owners. No club in Hong Kong could have afforded him.

If he's on anyone's list and he starts playing again I'd say he's a good choice.

He'd probably have a heart attack within five minutes the fat f*cker.

Was a great player for Liverpool, doesn't deserve the abuse he gets from some Reds.

He's in the crowd for a cup game here last night. And some feckwits were singing YNWA in front of him at half time...
