I think Gerrard needs to get back into biting tackler mode now, and tracking back and working his aris off in the trenches as it where. I don't care if it means he gives up a bit on the maurading runs. Someone needs to take responsibility now Momo is out.

We need both the bullies and the skilled. That said, we're lacking in the bully stakes. Watched how Man Utd and Chelski stood up to both Sheffield Utd and Bolton and then murder them in the skill department to come away with handsome wins.

I gave this a serious amount of thought before Momo was injured and I came to the following conclusion

 

Gerrard Alonso Sissoko Zenden.

 

Basically, that midfield is 4 solid CM's with two out wide that can also do a job on the flanks. I think those 4 would work hard to get a Arsenal and yet be able to play with 2 strikers so we dont lose too much initiative.

 

However, for me Pennant and Gonzalez are offering little. If they are cut off down the flanks then they lose any value they have (nice way of saying they are then useless or anonyomous). I have my views on Garcia that would require a big post in order to fully put across my thoughts on him.

 

So in essence, I would like to see us play with two strikers and ideally put Riise on the left, that is the only comfort I would have, but that disrupts the back line and I dont want to see that either.

Arsenal are exceptional through the middle but not so dangerous out wide. You have to match them in centre midfield giving Fabregas, Rosicky, Hleb no time on the ball. We need to either play 1 up front and 5 in midfield or Kuyt drops deeper and we play a compact midfield 4 like Rory F says.

Crouch upfront. Have to win the midfield battle before we can do anything else. Crouch the outlet ball to allow Garcia, Pennant and Gerrard to support.

3-5-2 would work, as long the midfield get about Hleb, Fabregas and Rosicky. Also, playing two up front would keep their defence thinking as I think Crouch or Kuyt on their own would see them being too isolated.

Reason include - Agger is quicker than Sami, who has struggled in this fixture often.

If the midfield 3 play compressed it will stifle the Arsenal midfield and allow us to play further upfield.

Putting Gerrad on the right will piss off Andy Gray!!

No idea but if I was asked a game in England where you were told to pick a match and a player you couldnt do without for that game it'd be Arsenal away and Sissoko. Absolutely gutted.

 

Agger has to start, we struggle to deal with their pace away from home so its time for something different defensively. I cant stand Garcia in away games especially against bigger teams but he sneaked a goal at Highbury last season so he might have to start.

 

I'd like to see a 4 3 3 myself with
